Did Elton John ever attend as chairman of Watford?

Not only did he attend the game when we played Watford in the FA Cup in the early 80’s, I sat next to him in the directors box and asked him to move his arm because his full length fur coat was annoying me.

I was a spotty faced young teenager at the time and I have to say you couldn’t wish to meet a nicer guy, had the pleasure of having a chat with him at half-time, very down-to-earth and he knew his football unlike most celebrity football supporters genuinely  a nice bloke

Are we any closer to getting promoted since Hurst has been here? No

Has he been given time to achieve promotion by the chairman and fans? Yes

Hurst out

Sir Stanley Matthews would be one from yesteryear. I saw something on another social media site about him playing at BP in his final season.

I seem to remember a certain Mr Bill Shankly visiting Blundell Park a few times

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

The one time I've been in a box at BP was when we beat Oldham in the league cup in 97/98 when Lester scored a ten min hattrick. Alan Shearer was in the box next door for some reason. Word got out and my dad told me to go get his autograph but the jobsworth on the door wouldn't let me in, just took my programme into him. Always wondered if it was genuine but I looked his signature up online years later and it matched.

So if anyone ever hears of anyone willing to pay top dollar for a Grimsby v Oldham programme signed by Alan Shearer, please send them my way.

Just got to the end of writing all that and remembered he obviously also played there in 05/06 as well when Whittle smashed his face in.

I remember seeing Frankie Vaughan (Ask your Gran) do his famous kick in the centre circle at half time in a home match in the 70s I think, cant remember if he sang a song though.
