Piece of GTFC history coming home thanks to the Mariners' Trust and eBay.

The shirt worn by Jack Hodgson in Grimsby Town’s 1939 F.A. Cup semi-final versus Wolves at Old Trafford.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Would be interesting to know if any of the other jerseys from that game have survived too.

Very well done to all who made this happen and it seems the purchasing of the shirt is universally welcomed.

I’ve heard that 2 other shirts have survived.  As it was a semi-final the players were allowed to keep these special edition shirts, which was not the norm back in the thirties.  I love the fact that this shirt comes from a time when Grimsby were one of the best teams in England and the war probably put a stop to us winning something big.

I find it depressing as fùck, to be honest. Of the 76,962 there that day, a great many of them young men, how many found themselves in battle just a few months later?

My grandad was one of them, and he was very, very fortunate to make it back alive. I wonder how many didn’t?

Teddy Buck's has survived. It is owned by a local Town fan and collector of memorabilia. I've seen photos of it.
I dont know of any others.

This is great stuff.

Given the lack of branding and the fact it wasn’t made by any particular sportswear brand, this could be something the club could release, like a retro shirt.

Especially given the significance. I know we’d all like the 82 adidas kit but we’ve been over the reasons we can’t have that…this however, we could…
