I will certainly be joining in the applause and I like to think even for fans not aware, if they see most of the ground applauding they will join in also.

God bless him and his family and friends. I’ve been there and very close to what he chose to do. Solidarity and love for all those affected. Men’s mental health is a cause worth standing up for. God bless Lee and good luck to KLFC.

Would be a winderful gesture, I along with many others have been fighting my demons, I am very open and have no shame in saying I saught help and am currently undergoing a course of therepy, I urge anyone going through any crisis or feeling unwell to seek help, there is no stigma or shame, life is stressful and all of us get physically and mentally exhausted at times.

I’m here for you mate if you need an ear or a shoulder. I’ve had therapy and still have medication. I will always carry a fellow mariner. I might be rubbish at looking after myself, and a bit broken but I won’t see others suffer.

I won't be at King's Lynn but will be listening on the radio and clapping at home on the 8th minute.

Terrible thing mental health, I've suffered with it for most of my life.

Thoughts with Lee's family and friends.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I think most people have PP but maybe don’t realise or choose to brush it off, I think with the pressures of life and financial struggles nowadays it affects a lot of people mate.

Thanks for the messages guys, its all going well so far and a work in progress!
Just wanted to say that if I can seek help then anyone can, its alwayS confidential so there is no shame or stigma, we each have our own stories to tell and pressures in life so if me being open about what I have done can encourage one other person to admit to themself they need some help and then take the biggest step in getting it then that alone is an achievment and could change a life.

Times are changing and we should all have honest conversations, mental illness is like any other illness, if we feel physically sick we go to a Dr, so why not when we are stressed, anxious or feeling depressed?

Most important of all is that each of us loom out for each other and speak to your friends and family if you feel out of sorts or notice another person is not themselves, it can and does make a difference.

I know this was originally started for tomorrows game aand I'm sure we'll get back to it. But I am just curious to see what help others seeked?
I was given anti depresents but they literally wiped me out and i slept 18-20hrs a day for 4-5 days soo quickly came off of them. I then was offered talk therapy and that genuinely worked brilliant for me.

Medication took the edge off to allow me to engage with therapy. Exercise keeps me on an even kilter. I believe once you try and take ownership of your own MH you feel more in control. Just my two penn'orth.

They're amazing at their job. The lady i had was only young and although I know she was only doing her job it felt like she was a close friend, made me smile and laugh alot at a time I usually wouldn't. I was lucky enough to get 10 session's through the doctor but sadly she wasn't allowed to go private so once my 10 session's were up i was flying solo... Luckily it was the right amount.
Like people have said above the fishy can be a pain at times but there's some amazing people here who'll always offer an ear to listen

Medication alone will not work. It may help with sleep of the physical feelings attached to stress, depression and so forth but it has to be a balance of therapeutic input and medical. Some can do without the pharmaceutical element but few truly succeed with medication alone.

Therapeutic input has to be right too, some folk go through 2/3 therapists before the right one, others click straight away. Specialism is integral too, but also understanding the differences between counselling and therapy.

It’s also worth, although difficult because of circumstance and state of mind, looking at which approaches are used. For instance, in the schools I’ve led we’ve moved away from CBT and more towards a theraplay/DDP approach, much more trauma informed and certainly less trauma inducing than CBT. It has to be right for the individual though and work related therapy is different to personal life stuff…

People should never be afraid or embarrassed to seek help of support in any form.

Just seen this thread and hits home. Without wishing or looking for sympathy - strikes a chord. I’ve struggled for years. In various forms.. be it lack of confidence, stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression..even PTSD from the Manchester arena thing. Still do. I’ve had dark thoughts..regularly..wouldn’t act on them because of my daughter. Had/have therapy, various medications..I often go through spells of shutting myself away, live like a recluse other than work and use Town matches as an ‘escape’..the hour in a fanzone and 2 hours at game is a godsend. I have a high guard, don’t let people ‘in’..beat myself up mentally, no self esteem etc etc, panic attacks

Ring any bells? There’s hundreds of thousands who suffer, I’m great at listening/helping with other peoples problems - but crap with my own.

Had a good conversation with AussieMariner during our walk on Friday, well I listened..it’s an area in which he has some experience in, and may be of assistance if anyone needed?

Moral is don’t bottle things up..and the daft thing is we all do.. and are ‘wary’ in letting it out..be it for stigma, trust, personal - or all these reasons. It’s about helping yourself, but letting others do it also. There’s no quick fix, and I may be wrong but my own experience is you have to/find ways of coping - as it never disappears.

Appreciate it isn’t easy, I’ve yet to find an answer. But it’s good to know (in a positive way) there’s people you know or are aware of that understand or are suffering also.

My wife suffers with mental health and panic attacks, I am her carer, she never goes anywhere without me.  Since CovidI have lost my release which was doing voluntary work in the Press Room on matchdays, hoping I can continue that role next season.  I need to look after my welllbeing, no good to anyone relying on me unless I do.
Some of you might think its stranage that I choose following GTFC as a way of getting away form the stresses of life, but I has born with black and white blood running my veins.

If anyone ever needs someone different to speak or listen to, I am here just a PM away.

Look after yourselves and those travelling tomorrow had a safe journey.

Men and women united together by a common interest supporting our beloved Grimsby Town.

Jaae I would never have known! Life can be cruel man, I'm so glad the walk went well.

My Mrs (only been together a year) home schools her autistic son and she has severe depression.... But do you know what, she's an amazing mum and blows me away the way she mothers / teaches her son. She genuinely is the nicest girl I've ever met (there's been a few!!) if I had 1 wish it'd be to take her mental pain away. New tablets atm but before them she used to suffer with severe nightmares, to the point it'd wake me up and I'd almost have to literally restrain her from beating herself up? - sounds crazy but with these 2 I'm genuinely more happy then I've ever been. No leash, no cage, no moans if I want to sneak off for the day to watch Town 😝

Anyway, its Monday!
8th minute make sure you stand and applaud guys and girls ♥

Some very personal information being shared here by some posters which I take my hat of to you all, touch wood my mental health has remained pretty stable throughout my life, but I have had and I do have friends who do struggle with it from time to time, it's ok not to be ok, it's ok to talk to somebody about how you are feeling, and sometimes just letting it out can go a long way.

Anyway game day, I am going, hopefully many of you are who has posted and for those who are reading who suffers from mental health, hopefully today is a good "escape" for you all (hope you all know what I mean, I can't word it very well)

If anyone wants to send me a PM I'll try to help, mental health is as important as physical health but is never treated that way. Problems can go away but often don't so it's how you cope and manage them that's the way forward.
As I said I'm always willing to help and whatever is said will be treated as confidential by me.

I'm not going to put all the details on here, but suffice to say I know how bad mental health can get from my own personal experience.  I was diagnosed with PTSD some years ago attributed solely to my Army service.  Seeing a Psychologist was the best thing I did and helped enormously,  It is best to talk to someone.

Cheers Jase, yes, as others have also offered I’m always available for a chat if anyone feels it might help.

I’m no expert but I went back to college a couple of years ago and am 2 years away from qualifying, definitely know more than I did at the start, and probably enough to not be dangerous.

One thing that has struck me is how many of my fellow students have serious mental health issues themselves but are committed to helping others. It’s a form of therapy itself and if anyone wants to look into it  my start point was an on-line course ‘Introduction to Counselling’ run by WEA. It’s a sort of taster to learn some basics and find out if you want to go further. From memory just a couple of hours a week for about 6 weeks.

Again, if anyone wants to know more or would like to chat just give me a shout.

I take 40MG Citalopram. For about 5 years now

Did counselling through open minds but didnt find it useful, my old employer then paid for private counselling for me with a lady out in Irby

I was on them too.

I’ve had Citalopram, Amitripyline and currently on 50mg Sertraline - although perfectly understand that medication isn’t a ‘fix’ - it’s more a balance. The counselling/therapy routes are equally important.

Fantastic post mate, very very brave of you to open up here, and also amazing that others will read this and be inspired to seek help and assistance or just open up and talk.

Remember one thing, this is not forever and at some point there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
You are not on your own and just the chat on this thread proves that people do care and do understand.
Take care!

Good evening guys. Lifelong Mariners fan now based in Bedfordshire. I have logged on to the Fishy for years but have just read from afar.  This thread really brought tears to my eyes. So many of us suffer and it is so heart warming to read of so many fellow Mariners talking openly about their own plights and are willing to help others. I have struggled with mental health and subsequent alcohol abuse for many years despite managing to hold down a career. God knows how. I take my hat off to you all for being so open. Last time I posted was in 2008 so this is something really close to my heart. I might not live in Grimsby any more. Toll Bar lad originally...but still live and breathe Town. All the best.

Careful or you'll become addicted and have addiction to deal with aswell 😝
All joking aside, it's (in a strange way) nice to see others feel it to. Others have struggles. Although, obviously, if it was possible I'd rather noone did.

Good thread guys..

Onto the original post, the clap sounded good on the radio so well done.

Excellent thread, and good for these things to be “aired” more widely.
You wouldn’t think twice about a long term prescription of a painkiller for (say) joint pain, and a few mg’s of Citalopram is no different, you are just helping to support your bodies natural defences
