At what point do Cleethorpes Town become our local rivals instead of just a cute semi-pro club down the road?

They won't... but they might become a rival for Scunthorpe!

Except I'm pretty sure their ground is technically in Grimsby. I think they become rivals when they are a serious threat to being in the same league as us the following season.

Personally, I think they can maintain a largely local playing squad at their current level and less so at the next level but if they got to the National League North that identity would have to go in order to compete in my opinion.

Well, I never knew that.   Just looked at the map and even Old Clee isn't in Cleethorpes.
Well, you learn every day.

As to CTFC, yeah I guess they'll go through growing pains and that's one of them. Price of reaching heady heights.
I wonder who was the first "foreigner" who played for GTFC?

He didn't play for us but Elemér Berkessy was the first foreign manager in the Football League when he managed us in 1954.

By foreigner, I meant none Grimberian/Area player. I suppose a player not from NE Lincs (modern) area.

I know when my Mrs did our family trees, there was a lot of movement across wider Lincolnshire and Yorkshire in the days before the motor car so I'm sure we will have had a non-local playing for us quite early on.

I guess when it comes to transfers of players between teams, how far back do we have records? Maybe one for Kristine 😉

In the 1880/1890s when my great great grandfather played for us as an amateur most of the team where Scottish professionals who were imported each year and moved between clubs based on who paid the most

Correct, Grimsby Town play in Cleethorpes, Cleethorpes Town play in Grimsby!
