It’s true, I was born in Cleethorpes so I have the right to declare, proudly and as an exile, ‘I’m from Cleethorpes’. Thing is, like many exiles, I’m from Cleethorpes when Town are not doing well but I suddenly switch to ‘I’m from Grimsby when we are. I’m not ashamed of my heritage, born in Cleethorpes but spent the majority of years pre-exile living in Great Grimsby. Am I from ‘Cleethorpes because it sounds slightly more exotic (yes really), or is it that I’m ashamed because of the reputation, fair or not of the town of Grimsby? Listen to our chairman speak, he never shies away from or disassociates from his home town. I speak not for every exile but can I say this, thank you for opening my eyes to inverted snobbery, it’s not where you’re from, it’s what you do.
Maybe late in the day and somewhat hypocritical but for my remaining days it’s Grimsby, loud and proud.

I'm 62 and was born in Cottingham, my fathers side of the family come from Hull, my mothers side from Sheffield.
We moved over to Cleethorpes when I was about six and I've lived here ever since.
Love the place, best thing we ever did.

When someone asks, I usually say ‘Grimsby, well technically Cleethorpes’.
You have them hooked instantly. They’re thinking, ‘Riviera playboy with a social conscience’. The palm-fronted Cleethorpes corniche backed up by the pulsing, post-industrial hipster vibes of GY.
I spent my first 18 years in one of Grimsby’s dormitory villages, rather than the heaving metropolis itself. So technically I should just say Cleethorpes, having never lived in Grimsby.
I was born there. It’s what my passport says. It’s where I lost my virginity. It’s where my team play!

If someone asks me, I say Cleethorpes, then expand it to 'next to Grimsby' if they don't know where Clee is. I'm not from Grimsby and have never lived there and spend most days entirely in Cleethorpes. Can't imagine saying I'm 'from' Grimsby, though it does feel like I'm 'home' as I drive into town past Pyewipe after a holiday.

Sounds like Cleethorpes snobs 😂 I have heard people say they mention Cleethorpes or Humberston because they embarrassed to say they’re from Grimsby which is shameful really. Born and bred Grimbarian and proud of it.

If you are born n bred in Grimsby and fancy a day at the coast do you drive the minutes down the road to Cleethorpes or do you venture elsewhere due to it being so familiar? I've watched Notts play Grimsby but never visited the besch.bit,is it any good?
I was born n bred in Nottingham,my dna will probably say 100℅ Arnold,Nottingham with a trace of France around 1066 😎

Born in Nunny maternity home but lived in Cleethorpes all my life (57) I do say both to try and explain where it is as some people will have visited Cleethorpes as a tourist . Sometimes have to resort to ‘near Hull? ‘ 😱

Cleethorpes is a wonderful place IMO. A superb huge beach, lots of great restaurants and and bars. It's a large resort with lots to do, over 180k attended armed forces last but one weekend. Stay over next time we play you, best of luck for next season.

Born in Park Street. Thankfully on the Grimsby side! So close to being a Meggie.
I had an uncle that lived on Park Street, my Dad would park his car outside his house on matchdays, where we would have a cup of tea before walking up to Blundell Park.

Born in Nunsthorpe, grew up in Cleethorpes, moved away at 18 it will always be 'home' to me. It's quite a unique feature though isn't it, to have two mid-sized towns essentially considered one and the same. I now live in Leeds which is very much conjoined with Bradford, but they are absolutely two separate places.
Can't think of many other places like that.

Grimsby, and everyone down here knows where I’m from. Still get excited seeing the dock tower when we visit Can’t deny that when I meet people for the first time, if they ask where I’m from I tell them “a picturesque fishing village on the east coast of England”.

I’ve always considered Salford a [large] suburb of Manchester, rather than the two places being equals in the way that Grimsby and Cleethorpes are.

Exactly, Salford is a city but I think of it as Manchester. I'm from Cleethorpes but tell everybody I'm from Grimsby because I consider them to be the same place

Born Croft Baker, lived Grimsby (Saltburn Grove?) till I was about one I think then brought up in Scunny, left when I was about 21 to get hitched in The Potteries. I usually say I am from Scunny if people ask and although Town mad I just don't have a special affinity for Grimsby or Cleethorpes as a place having never really lived there.

Born just off Park Street on the Cleethorpes side, about 100 yards from the border with GY. Moved to GY for about 6 years in my first house, then moved back to Clee.
I now live off Clee Road, which feels more like Cleethorpes than the house I was born in off Park Street, but is actually in Grimsby. I live closer to the seafront now than I did as a child, yet the postcode shows I'm in GY.
When people ask me where I'm from, I say Grimsby usually, because it's often more easily recognised than Cleethorpes.

Grimsby born and bred and proud of it, I live out of Grimsby now but visit regularly, I have been ridiculed over the years many times about it (being a Grimbarian) I work in Lincoln LSCC now with a majority of them I work with being Lincoln fans, they do take the pee out of the town but respect me for following my team through thick and thin, it’s just friendly banter , they are all a good bunch really.

Managing Whiffing The Peaches is sometimes a bit confusing because .... One member (Trsih) is from Grimsby The other member (Ade) is from Cleethorpes All promotional documentation says "...from NE Lincolnshire" But when their music is played on various radio stations, its often "From Grimsby" or "Lincolnshire" and often (O/S sations) "From the UK". Luckily I live in Louth, so it doesn't affect me

During the early 00's I lived in both Brighton and Hove, which I think was similar to Grimsby and Cleethorpes. It is one city now though and not two towns.
