Sorry if covered in other posts, but wondering if James Mckeown still has a part time role at the club to suppliment his part time role in the Irish League.

He has posted an Outtake tweet on his Twitter page whilst warming up one of the goalkeepers from the GTFC Academy.

Don't we already have Steve Croudson as GK Coach at the club?

To be fair we cant offer every ex player roles can we?
He know the career of lower league footballers are short, most have back up plans for when they finish and to be fair they have good amounts of time to get an education.

Hes earnt good wages so the club owe him nothing.

As much as I love him and his service to the club, I’m not sure he’s equipped to coach commanding the box and catching the ball under pressure!

That's slightly harsh I think.

Whilst here he was coaching the academy goalkeepers on an evening and I imagine there was no extra pay for that. Granted he was paid well enough as a player but you don't see all the Town squad giving up their time to coach in the academy so that's additional work he's done for the benefit of the Club that he would unlikely have been forced to do.

If he is continuing that work when not playing in Ireland I'd say that's more a measure of the commitment he's shown the Club than anything else. We may not owe him anything in the sense of earning a living now he's left, that doesn't mean to say we don't owe a degree of respect for the commitment he showed the Club for 10 years and to somehow pay it back if we can. It also shows we're aiding ex-players in coaching pursuits where possible which I think is a great move on the Clubs behalf.

More likely that he was told by the new owners, on his departure, that he'd be welcomed back any time.

His family still lives in the area so he's probably popped by the training ground and joined in.

It might be more than that; it might be just that.

Either way, ex-keeper thinks highly of club; club thinks highly of ex-keeper. 'To be a place where every Mariner belongs', as it says in the club's mission statement.

It's amazing that some people can't wait to have a dig.
It's the same with HC on another thread at the moment, just can't wait to have a dig ffs

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

If he’s doing his coaching badges he’ll need hours under his belt which I suspect that this is what it’s about.

But it's not having a dig merely pointing out somebody's shortcomings. As far as a goalkeeping coach role is concerned, how could he coach somebody to command the six yard box and deal with high crosses when this was a flaw in his game?

It is possible to coach beyond your own capabilities. Wenger, Mourinho, Klopp, Benitez, etc have done ok without stellar playing careers

Maybe but if Macca couldn't correct a fault in his playing style, and I am sure coaches must have pointed this out, then how would he recognize that flaw in somebody he was mentoring?

JM isn't employed by the club. He has done bits of 1-2-1 GK coaching for a while, but it's not linked or associated with the Club's Academy.
