Unfortunately, he's going to be out for about 3 months - high grade hamstring injury

A real shame for him as he was enjoying a very good injury-free spell. It also means there will be no partnership with Taylor for McAtee when he returns.

A big chance for the other forward options now though. I believe Orsi should be nearing a return from injury, hopefully he gets more opportunities.

Always a possibility this would happen; Taylor’s 34 and it was always a big ask for him to be playing 70+ minutes most weeks.

Evidently we tried, but failed, to find a like-for-like alternative in the summer; it was always the standout disappointment of the window.

Let’s look at the positives though. We just tonked the League One leaders in our best performance of the season playing an entirely different way. We’ve burned our ships now - we’ll just have to make it work moving forward, until January at the very least.

I think if we hadn’t had the Plymouth performance without him we would all be on here in a suicidal state and berating PH for not signing a duplicate for this eventuality. One game has changed everything for me (two if you include Crewe) .we don’t need a back to goal hold up player functioning 30- 40 yards from goal slowing everything down if we set up like we did last Saturday.. We do have a problem fitting Mcatee into that style of play though. Transfer window will be interesting.

Ah, crap. Very bad news.

Let's hope Orsi and Pepple return from injury very soon indeed and can start having an impact. Kiernan better stay fit as well! Don't want too much pressure on McAtee's shoulder(s) when he returns in a week or two.

That could be the last we see of him as a regular starter as I expect the trajectory of the club means Taylor will be put out to stud at the end of the season.

I don’t think we’ll see anymore of Bim, I believe he’s being sent back. I was told the same with Keke but not sure if that’s changed.

Not great news this. As good as we were last week without him there are games where we’ll need him over the next few months. We don’t really have anyone like him as a short term fix either.

Echo that I hope this changes our style of play. A back to goal striker who is rarely in the box is not how I want to see the game played.

Primarily, he's there to be a focal point and link up with the other attackers and then nick a few here and there when given a chance. With McAtee returning, we'll have to see if we can get him into games as effectively without such a focal point.

Should of done more to keep desi and Abrahams. Surely better than the current situation apart from Kieran and Richardson who are decent imho, but we need that big hold up player who will rough up opposition defenders and not just bounce off them like our lightweight midgets seem to.

But then we became a one-trick pony that's easier to defend.   Taylor was most effective when McAtee was playing, but he hasn't been, so why did we keep on doing what we were doing?   I think our results flatter to deceive a little. More guts than guile.  I think this could be a blessing in disguise, especially not Efete is regaining confidence.

Made more noticeable by Miller’s performance for Donny. We had no focal point to play off, and before anyone compares this week to last, Plymouth played a high line, Donny left no space for us to get in behind.

Noticeable by Millers performance he moved more quickly, controlled it better than Taylor. Was that because our defence were rubbish, their passing was better? all I know is I have yet to see Taylor play anywhere near that well yet this season.

Not sure who the Taylor haters are.  I love the bloke but he hasn't been doing as good a job as he was last year.  Is it because league two defences are more savvy? Is it the lack of McAtee? Or is it his age?  If you play a player because you like him, I'd have Paul Groves in the team. The fact that Grovsie can't doesn't mean we all hate him.

We play a guy up front on his own with no runners anywhere near him, loop high balls that are a defenders dream and expect him to bring it down, hold it for 5 seconds until somebody gets remotely close to him and then play a meaningful ball.

He's not even that sort of target man. He plays clever passes and flicks when the ball is to his feet or at least a flat long ball. I agree he's looked poor and seems to foul most of the time, but he's having to play a role that nobody at this level can. If he could, he'd be playing way higher up.

Donny largely had a 6 man back line , all big physical units, dealing with a single "striker" ....even if it wasTaylor he wouldn't have stood a chance.

Desi & Abrahams wanted first team football, they came in and did for us last season and put themselves in the shop window I sure Paul may have wanted them both to stay as squad players, but ultimately they wanted more than being impact subs.

Mani's scored 7 in 18 for a lower mid-table Halifax side.

The issue with him is that he didn't want to come here and be second choice, he wanted to be the main man somewhere and we couldn't have offered him that.

I thought he showed the form and attributes that defied his previous stats and history.  Whilst he went down in folklore because of his goals in the play-off quarter and semi-finals, I thought he actually proved he can be a really effective No. 9 when coming on and held the ball up really well.

Clearly Hurst wants more than just holding up and bringing it down and values the link-up play that Taylor brings.

We only really saw Mani in short bursts so it's impossible to determine how effective he would have been as a main man here.  As well as he's doing at Halifax, the expectations are different there and the standard is significantly different.  But using the beauty of hindsight, perhaps we might have been better asking him to stay here and fight for his chance to be the main man.

His goalscoring record here was incredible, with the only ever so slight blot on his copybook coming away at King's Lynn where he missed a hatful.  With shooting boots on that day, I wonder if he could have made it impossible for Hurst to not make him the main man...

Can't really disagree with that, our group has been saying the same. We can't understand how Paul Hurst persists in playing a lone striker at home and one that isn't really strong enough to really hustle opposition central defenders.

For us this is why our home record is so poor.
