York have sacked John Askey today.  Totally unexpected.

Like us, they have a manager who got them promoted via the playoffs.  Again, like us, they then flirted with the playoffs following promotion. Before currently being in a respectable mid-table position.

York are now owned by Glen Henderson (51%) and York City Supporters’ Society (49%).

Interesting how and why the decision was arrived at.  A York player said today that the players did not train today as they were so shocked.

A rumour that Askey was sacked because he refused to play the owners son (Henderson).

Bizarre sacking. As you say it's a similar situation to us but a league lower.

I know some York fans and Askey is well liked by most fans.

Askey to Scunny?

Taken from his Wiki page...

Managerial style:

Askey has a reputation for playing attractive football and for managing teams on a budget by spotting ability in young players and helping revive the careers of players whose careers had stalled.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Bit of a delayed reaction unless his son signed with them again. He was last on the books of Carlisle's youth team and Atlanta United as far as I can tell and played for York's youth team a few years ago, bit prolific as a forward at youth level. I guess it's different than when it's the manager's son who usually gets played and is usually crap.
