Delighted that PotW directed me to this very touching tale, which I'd missed - probably due to obsessing with the OJTWT.

Very nicely written ... had to clear a speck of dust from my eye when I'd finished reading it and imagined the scene.

Wonder if diehardmariner still has the autograph book - there'll be a few famous names in it (and plenty of "can't remember him"s).

Just a thought (assuming the book exists) - take digital photos of evey page and offer them to the Official Site as a treasured memory item.
Be great for oldies like me, who like to see how much they've forgotten (sadly). The story could accompany the item.
