Sad to hear of the passing of Dickie Davies.

A staple of my youth when growing up with World Of Sport.

RIP Dickie.

Just watched a clip of him on YouTube and immediately took me back to my childhood upon hearing his voice.

World of sport and Dickie Davies made Saturdays, watch a bit World of Sport, then headed down to Blundell Park to get my spot in the Pontoon towards the back behind the goal to watch the Mariners and then down to the local newsagent at 6pm to collect the Sports Telegraph, a bit of Cella Black blind date, then down the local till closing time.
Them were the days.

Part of the sports tapestry of this country.

Also famous (or infamous) for getting it wrong on air.

He meant to say “Cup soccer, but it came out as
Co@k sucker.

No better or worse than than the female TV presenter who was talking about organisms.  Unfortunately, she said “orgasms”.

She would gave got away with it if see had not been mortified abs out her hand to her mouth.

True legend Dickie, in a time before all the Sky packaged bull sh!t.

I know he was famous for that mitake, personally I liked the BBC weather man who came out with "bucket full of c**ts" on air.

Saturdays.

Chippy dinner, Dickie Davis, then down to BP if we were at home, and an afternoon of wrestling and various other sports like speedway if Town were away.

I can see that mallen streak in his hair and hear his voice in my mind.

Well said Les. I'd be glued to World of Sport on a Saturday afternoon before I started going to away games regularly. The best memory was watching the wrestling and seeing Town's updates coming through every few minutes from the game at Wimbledon in 1980. That was the first time I saw 6 confirmed as (SIX).

It was my first season as a Town fan and I was instantly hooked. First game was Town 4 Blackpool 3.

RIP Dickie, forever immortalised by the one and only Benny Hill

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.
