Feel for the travelling support....another terrible draw location wise.
Good for the exiles in London though.
No reason why we can't beat Brighton... hopefully a half decent payday too....Southampton's support terrible.

They're 8th and six points off qualifying for Europe with a game in hand. They're a bit of a different proposition to Southampton who have been terrible all season.

There was nothing to lose tonight so there is nothing to lose away at Brighton in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.
Obviously Brighton are an efficient Premier League team unlike Southampton who will surely be relegated.

Is that correct that we play Rochdale at home the Saturday before the Brighton match with no midweek game?
This might be clutching at straws but Brighton have got the M23 derby against Palace on the Wed night before the Cup match. They can’t really rest the likes of Mitoma and MacAllister for that.

Let them play them. We have made the quarterfinals of the FA cup win or lose. Get hammered or lose 1-0 it’s irrelevant it might not happen for another 30/40/50 years let’s not worry about there line up let’s sell out make some noise and show the lads how much we love them, because what they have done is nothing short of incredible.

I guess the TV people will look at potential viewing figures and I suspect they’ll see our game as having the least interest, so as you say, Friday night in Brighton it’ll be.

Hi! Brighton fan in peace.
Firstly, congratulations on your amazing exploits this season in the cup, it is always lovely to see a club from the lower divisions defeating 'bigger' teams. It was not so long ago that we were fighting for our existence and in a similar position.
Most Brighton fans won't regard this match as a forgone conclusion, at least those of us of a certain age who remember all too well a lot of slip ups on our part.
On the issue of the day it will be played, I think it is almost certain that we will play Sunday. Our ground is designed to be accessed mostly by train and if there's a strike it seems unlikely. Friday is extremely unlikely too as we play our rivals palace on the Wednesday (BTW no one calls it the M23 derby except the press) in a match that's already rearranged twice.
Anyway good luck and see you all at the game!

We’re mad for our road names in Grimsby so it will always be the M23 derby to us M8. Although, to be honest, I tend to refer to it as the shït-on-the-changing-room-floor derby.

Haha, palace spun it that someone from our club pooed on the changing room floor. Our club got a lot of criticism for that. It turned out it was their coach driver. It would be nice to have received an apology lol. On the road thing, M23 derby makes no sense as it stops in the north of Sussex and instead becomes the A23. Not so catchy though.

People talking about Friday night, last season 1 of the 1/4 finals was a Saturday and the other 3 were on Sunday.
I am almost certain we are looking at the Sunday.

Friday would be rotten for us so I’m guessing they’ll be the day we play
Think Brighton are playing on the Wednesday, so perhaps not. ManU come back from a Thursday in Europe, so will probably get the Sunday evening slot. Think we might get Sunday (Mothers' Day) afternoon with a bit of luck.

Unfortunately the heart says we're going to Wembley, but my head says the dream ends at Brighton - they are light years ahead of Southampton (who were pretty damn good on the ball and created lots of chances despite being so awful by prem standards) and I can't imagine they will make more than 4, maybe 5 changes to the staring team and risk falling into the disjointed performance trap. I'm feeling pretty zen about it though, who cares if we lose in the next round really? It's been a magical journey

Yeah, I have to agree. I've been hugely optimistic ever since we got rid of Fenty (* spit *) but thinking rationally rather than emotionally I can't see a way past Brighton away. As you say, it's been a magical once-in-a-lifetime journey. This is kind of appropriate... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8WMGBuNaus

excrement draw really
Hardly a excrement draw, they are flying in the premiership and if you watch them a very good team, yes we’d all have liked Man Utd away but Brighton is hardly a excrement draw.

It's the farthest away and most difficult to get to by some distance, especially with the trains as they are at present. Fulham a bit easier to reach than Brighton, all the other quarter-finalists a lot easier to reach. After the two Manchester clubs, it is the team we're least likely to have a chance of beating and we won't even be able to get enough tickets for fans that do want to go.
That's a crap draw for me all day long.

I think that's his point - they're a really good side who we have almost no chance of beating, but without the glamour of the Manc sides, plus its a ridiculously long trip and we'll get a smaller allocation (slightly) than the last round. Compared to what we could have had its a excrement draw - bit like all the others really, we're winning this aren't we!

They're 8th and six points off qualifying for Europe with a game in hand. They're a bit of a different proposition to Southampton who have been terrible all season.
Some decent players in that squad notably world cup winner Alexis Mac Allister,Danny Wellbeck and Adam Lallana.

With a Championship team guaranteed to be in the semi-final, it presents a great opportunity for Brighton to ensure they have European football to play next season. They don't have relegation to worry about so it will be a different approach and we are no longer operating under the radar.

We only conceded late on away to Palace. That was with 10 men nearly all game. We can do another rearguard defence. We have a chance at Brighton. Even if only a very outside chance. We will be taken more seriously than 16th in Div 2. That is a mindset higher teams and fans find it hard to get past.

I reckon we will get the early Sunday slot with Manure the main act in the second game. The all Championship game will be Friday.
United and City can’t play at home on the same day and United have to play on the Sunday due to Europa, and Brighton can’t play on the Friday due to the Palace game so yeah it has to be the Sunday by process of elimination surely!

Think the draw is conspiring against wedded bliss in my household after just returning from Southampton on my wife’s birthday I then announced its likely me and the lad will now be away on Mother’s Day, so we need to cancel restaurant booking, and should we win again the semi final clashes with a planned weekend in Spain which would also have to bite the dust as nobody could expect us to miss an event that in most likelihood will only happen once a century. Not sure why she just disappeared out the room so quickly can’t be anything I said!!!
If she’d let me finish the good news is we’ve nothing planned for the weekend of the Final 😀😀

The Falmer Stadium is smaller than the St. Mary's so a lower allocation. If we could take over 4,000 for a midweek game, I'd have thought we'd be able to take a lot more than that to a weekend game in our first quarter - final for 84 years.
The only issue might be Mother's Day affecting numbers if the game is played on Sunday as expected.

Seems the usual allocation is 3000. Guess that could be a bit short of demand. Maybe they’ll make more available. I mean, the cost, the distance, the time and effort and hassle - our fans are astonishing. There is a bit of me that would’ve loved to pack Bramhall Lane. Or BP, so I get what you’re saying.

Just had a look on their forum and they’re already talking about Wembley allocations & ticket prices.
Fair enough they’ll probably beat us, I just hope we snap a few legs in the process. Always disliked their fans, glad we sent them down in 02/03.

The allocation won’t be enough for demand, I reckon there will be 7 or 8000 after tickets at a guess, maybe even more.

They have to give us 4500 minimum as per FA rules.
That means that not even all ST holders are guaranteed a ticket.

Only positive is that it’s on a weekend
Is Friday night the weekend? There’s zero chance the game will be on the Saturday. There’s a rail strike and earlier in the season Brighton had a Premier League home game called off because it fell on a strike day. The 4 QFs are scheduled for Friday, Saturday (2 games) and Sunday. Man Utd have a Europa League game on the Thursday before so can only fill the Sunday slot. That leaves us on Friday night unless BBC & ITV decide to have 2 Sunday matches instead of the planned 1 match.

Brighton play on the wednesday, we wont be on the Friday
So do Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers & Burnley. So that rules out every tie from the Friday night, but there’s a tie scheduled for the Friday night (on BBC 1), so something has to give (either fixtures miving or BBC agreeing to a different time slot for one of their picks.

Quite certain we will be Sunday afternoon...
My prediction:
Sheffield United vs Blackburn - Friday Night (They will postpone there games on the Wednesday). Man City vs Burnley - Saturday some point. Brighton vs Grimsby - Sunday dinner or 2pm (Our game the Tuesday after then postponed potentially). Man Utd vs Fulham - Sunday afternoon/tea time.
The premier league will oppose to Brighton's game being postponed on the Wednesday. Man Utd will need to play on Sunday afternoon as they are away in Spain on Thursday night. Man City will need to play Saturday, as they cannot play same day as Man U, as both at home.
The only other thing would be Man City on the Friday, as they play Tuesday so that gives them enough break and Sheffield vs Blackburn on the Saturday, but either way I don't think it changes for us. I could imagine they would want a big team on each day aswell though, so expect Sheff U on Friday, Man City on Sat and Man U on Sunday.
FA normally like two games on the Sunday, so hopefully they change it this time and put two on the Saturday and we end up playing Saturday dinner time.

It is a mission to get to, of course, but looking on the brightside, it's one of the best cities in the country for a weekend away or a night out, in my opinion. Pretty special place.

Seemingly the only town fan currently in Brighton, I know it’s a trek but it’s a great night out and I’ve always reckoned it would be a class away day.
No lack of pubs whatsoever, good, friendly vibe everywhere, parking is limited/costly in the centre but not too hard to get park a little bit out of town and bus or walk in.
Sun should be shining by mid March, it’ll be a great day/night out , can’t wait to see the streets black and white! UTM

I can't see why the demand for tickets would be any lower than for the Play-off final. There were will a certain number of ST Holders that will never go to away games that distance away, but demand for general sale will be through the roof. 1878 and Trust membership will really be beneficial this time.

Sunday early game would be great. Get down for Saturday lunchtime, fish and chips (get to say they were excrement afterwards), bit of coining in the arcades, walk on the pier, watch the Saturday teatime game with a few beers to scout out potential semi final opponents. Then a seafront walk and a hearty breakfast on the Sunday morning. Couple of pints, knockout Brighton, head back North with a song in our hearts listening to Radio 5 discuss how nobody will want to play us in the semi's. Textbook.

Can't see how anything could possibly go wrong with such a well-planned visit. Most impressed...

Fa cup rules state they need to provide 15% of capacity. Capacity at their stadium is 30k. So 4.5k

Apparently Brighton fans are buying inflatable seagulls to join in the fun.
I had a look on their forum and in a typical Brighton sort of way they was concerned about the plastic waste from inflatables 😂

It’s 83 years since our last FA Cup quarter final , these games don’t come around very often for Grimsby fans so I’m pretty sure we’ll sell out whatever tickets they offer us . I reckon if they’re struggling to sell all their home tickets then we could get more than 5000

The trick is going in with realistic expectations. I know the fish and chips will be excrement so I won't be disappointed when they are. As you say, pretty much foolproof other than that 😉

Just had a look on their forum and they’re already talking about Wembley allocations & ticket prices.
Fair enough they’ll probably beat us, I just hope we snap a few legs in the process. Always disliked their fans, glad we sent them down in 02/03.
I don't think many people will underestimate the challenge your club will bring. An upset can happen to anyone and the club and team will treat everyone from Grimsby FC and the fans with the respect you deserve. It is natural if you are a hot favourite to start thinking about what will probably be, I imagine some of your fans would think similarly in such a situation. And as for the other comment about disliking fans and breaking legs, well it's a free country but I personally wish you well and your fans. Fans of Brighton from my generation know what it is to kick about in the lower leagues and you've had the resilience to bounce back well and that's to be admired. If you visit Brighton, you'll likely have a great weekend whatever the score and may come away preferring not to break other teams players legs.

Our stadium is only 500 or so smaller than St Mary's presently. I think you get 15% and that makes your allocation around 4770 of a total 31800. Edit: JUst read the post about the rules for stadiums over a certain size not having to give 15% so what I said may not be entirely accurate. I don't think we will change what we did for Liverpool though, wouldn't seem fair.

Withdean, now we enjoyed a lot of success there, but what a soul destroying stadium that was. Man U had Theatre of Dreams whilst we had the Theatre of Trees. And kudos for trying the away end. Even worse than the family stand view. You needed binoculars.

We only conceded late on away to Palace. That was with 10 men nearly all game. We can do another rearguard defence. We have a chance at Brighton. Even if only a very outside chance. We will be taken more seriously than 16th in Div 2. That is a mindset higher teams and fans find it hard to get past.
The Palace performance was forced upon us due to the sending off. I'm not sure sitting back against a team that is going as well as Brighton are would be the best choice. Despite the players putting on a magnificent performance last night, at times Southampton were pretty crap and as has happened a few times this season it only took one of our defenders to leave the man he was marking and bingo he scored.

Yeah, they’ll sell ‘em. For all of Brighton’s new found success, they’ve only had as many FA Cup semi-finals in their history as us (albeit, both somewhat more recently than us). It’s a big game for them, even if we may be small beer in opponent terms. On the one hand it may limit our allocation slightly, but on the other at least they’ll make it more of an occasion than Southampton did. Still haven’t released the attendance, have they?

There has been a lot of push back since a few idiots starting posting that crap. Sure we are hoping to win and on paper will win but nothing is a given in this game. Most of us are looking forward to hosting a decent team with bloody good fans, and win or lose I suspect you will get a cheer from us, after all you have at a minimum got to the 1/4 finals, and no matter how crap Stains are at the moment they are still a PL side. So bloody well done to you guys.

I kinda understand why some Brighton fans would do that. It’s different to say the play off semi where you had two evenly matched sides. If you apply logic, we don’t have a hope in hell. It’s one thing playing Southampton who are dreadful, it’s another playing a much improved Brighton since Potter left, and the chance to win a trophy must be something they relish.
That said, football is a funny game and it only takes a mistake or a ropey VAR decision either way and town could find themselves in an FA cup semi final.
As for allocation, I guess we’ll have to wait and see, the AMEX holds more than I relapsed so that helps. I do know that deep down, we’re all worried about the online ticketing system…poor fornicator is shite at the best of times but here’s yet another big game for it to buckle under pressure…

£300,000 gate receipts ; 40% = £120,000. After expenses probably another £75,000 in the bank (we had to pay £10k for our new hero VAR remember)

I’m still slowly coming to terms with everything.
Grimsby Town… FA Cup Quarter Finalists.
Even the mere suggestion of that is foolish at best & idiotic at worst.
It almost feels like the game doesn’t matter. The game and weekend is to purely celebrate our wonderful town and football club.
A day to thank Stockwood/Pettit, Hursty and the team.
A once in a lifetime day to spend with friends and family, while remembering those mariners who are sadly no longer with us but would have loved to have watched Grimsby Town in an FA Cup Quarter Final.
Conversely, it’s an “FA Cup Quarter Final”.
We’re 90 minutes from Wembley and an FA Cup Semi Final.
The laws of football simply forbid little old Grimsby from the fourth tier making an FA Cup Semi Final.
So that can’t happen.
Or can it?

Hardly a excrement draw, they are flying in the premiership and if you watch them a very good team, yes we’d all have liked Man Utd away but Brighton is hardly a excrement draw.
If you had to pick somewhere to spend a couple of days away and spend 90mins watching your team......then it's Brighton all day long for me, yes man utd/city are bigger teams, but it's great in Brighton for a night out, get yourselves down "the lanes" for a few beers and a bit of shopping. I think all this moaning about it being a excrement draw is a bit disrespectful to Brighton, who have always been a decent club with decent fans.

Brighton fan here, just a bit of context…… don’t take any notice of the handful of our goons thinking this is in the bag already and being a bit gobby from the safety of their keyboards. We’ve got a long history and track record of losing games we ‘should’ win (see Charlton just a few weeks ago) so there is no complacency on the part of most of us, and doubt there will be in the squad either - De Zerbi is STILL sore about the Charlton defeat in the Carabao and keeps mentioning it. This game is pretty much as big a deal for us as it is for you (we’ve never won anything) so there’s huge excitement and anticipation this end.
I’ll be absolutely amazed if the game doesn’t sell out, particularly as your allocation will be bigger than a normal away one (will be c4,800) - Southampton showing by them was very poor (was the same for us at Stoke this week, they didn’t seem to care).
You’ll be made very welcome in the City and at the Amex and won’t see much big time Charlie arrogance from our fans - we know where we’ve come from. Good luck and let’s hope the game does the occasion justice….

I don't think it's any disrespect to Brighton that it's not the draw we wanted. It's a great place and will be a brilliant weekend but it's a very long journey for most and whilst they're not one of the historically bigger clubs they're also very, very good.

This. We'll need to play out of our skins, they'll need to have a massive off day, and we'll need to get very very lucky, and that's just to stay level for 90 minutes. Still going to be an amazing experience though isn't it.

We get that……not the glamour of playing Man U/City and also a long old trip (we have our fair share of those being down here). At least it’s unlikely to be an evening ko.

The only elite team us oldies have not seen us play against, and beat(!) is Manchester United.
We hoped that with such relatively short odds the quarter final would be the time - Manchester United away and a fortune in the bag.
Brighton away will be a fantastic day for the nearly 5k who go, we can see first hand a club who for decades were in a similar position to us but went from playing at the Withdean to the incredible Amex and the riches of the Premier league.
Several clubs have gone from rags to riches, and we will try to emulate some of them in the years ahead and it will be interesting to see Brighton and probably go wow.
All journeys start with the first step as they say and we have already started on our journey wherever it takes us.

Maybe I am in the minoity but I see Brighton as a great draw , if we had got City or Utd it would be more than likely a heavy defeat without a dream of winning ,Brighton although loads better than Saints wont tonk us and if we can stay in the game they might get nervy and we could have a small chance of another upset .
The only others I was wanting were either Sheff u away (which would be carnage ,or another champ team at home)
Maybe thats because I have only ever been to Old Trafford and the Etihad as a neutral though and found them to be plastic experiences with too much of the premier league style vertical passing which Southampton also seemed to enjoy even though they didnt get anywhere .

Man Utd or Man City away would have been the best draws, simply for the moolah and in Man Utd's case, not having played them in pure yonks. Next would have been Sheff Utd at home or away. Like you say it would have been mayhem. Brighton away is still way down the list when you weigh up potential financial return, chance of progression, ease and cost of travel for the fans. But as I said on another thread, we'll make sure we turn it into a decent draw and we know the lads will give it a bloody good go!

I dunno, Brighton are now an established top-half PL team with a fairly new 32,000 seater stadium (the third biggest in the draw) which will be full come match day. It’s a new ground for Town and an architecturally unique one, unlike the Saints Bowl. Granted, geographically it’s not great but that aside it’s still a decent draw. If you’d have offered me Brighton away in the quarter final of the FA Cup 48 hours ago I’d have snapped your bloody hand off.

Yeah, we all have different weightings for how decent a draw is. For me, having got all this way, it's dosh then chance of progression. Brighton's ground is smaller than Bramall Lane, a gnat's nadger bigger than Ewood Park (assuming there'll be a decent crowd) and not appreciably bigger than Craven Cottage or Turf Moor, to elevate it too much dosh-wise. Chance of progression arguably much slimmer than against Sheffield Utd, Blackburn or Burnley. Fulham is similar but I've never been to Craven Cottage and would personally prefer to go there. But it matters not a jot now. Brighton will be cracking for a weekender and more-than-a-generational occasion!

Do we think it'll be full? I genuinely don't know - they seem to fill it for league games.

It’s a grand occasion, even if we might not be a grand opponent in the big scheme of things. I’m confident it will be a full sellout, and probably at full price which seems to be £30 adults and £18 concessions looking at recent PL fixtures. That makes it a potentially expensive day out for families (unless the club seek to negotiate cheaper options) but also quite lucrative for the club. Probably between a £300k and £400k share of the gate receipts. Not what it would have been at Old Trafford perhaps, but beggars can’t be choosers - it’s still a significant windfall for the club.

I think throughout this cup run there’s been a lot of potentially excrement draws. A lot of the good draws went out early doors, although we’ve had some stinkers (wouldn’t swap them for the world now though. If we’d got Burnley/Blackburn/Fulham away we’d have been gutted.
Brighton isn’t great in terms of distance but it’s a great chance of a long weekend for many, a new ground & it’s the quarter final of the FA Cup!
Looking at the teams, only Man U away appealed to me. Couldn’t care less about going to the Etihad and getting spanked by City.

It’s an FA Cup quarter final - I didn’t care who we got. It was unthinkable two years ago that we’d be in this position. Enjoy this mini golden age while it lasts.

Yeah, Brighton was the only ground I’ve not been to out of the 7 potential away draws. Went to the Withdean a couple of times, is the new stadium better?

Yeah, the last EIGHT teams in the country. That's almost European Football next season in The Prem.

Hmm, I think I'm maybe conditioned by 'unfashionable Grimsby'. And I'd be worried about getting a ticket. As an exile, going in with the home supporters is always my last resort option when tickets are scarce. It's not a favoured option but I get to see the game.

Can I firstly say as a Brighton fan, well done. Having been a fan for 50 years I fully appreciate the underdog nerves. It was a great watch with even me pacing the floorboards waiting for the final whistle. Come down and enjoy the day on the south coast. Whatever the result I'm sure it will be a friendly occasion. Those thinking of coming for the weekend while Brighton has the nightlife, Lewes is worth thinking of. It's the county town but is small, home to the local brewery and plenty of pubs. It's just one stop from the Amex on the train. I live near Hastings and much prefer Lewes for a pre or post match beer. In response to the capacity of the Amex it's 31800, only 250 less than Bramell Lane, 500 more than Ewood Park and 10000 more than Fulham currently and 10000 more than Burnley. We no doubt will sell out as we are well supported. You will get the whole South end which holds about 4800. Enjoy the day, win or lose.

Brighton's stadium is a bit odd: two big side stands, but relatively small behind the goals. That might help Town. I think Bramall Lane, Turf Moor or Ewood Park would have been more intimidating. As long as Brighton don't score early, it should be a cracking game.

It seems your ticket allocation is 4621 which I'm sure you will sell out in no time at all, shame we couldn't give you a few more but there is a chance that if the home tickets don't seem to look like selling out then you might get an extra allocation. I think that's unlikely though as its an FA Cup quarter final and as exciting and anticipated for us as it is for Grimsby fans. There's a semi final at Wembley for the winners so we certainly wont be fielding a weakened team or taking it for granted as we've never won anything of note apart from a few promotions as champions and this looks like our best chance ever of actually winning something and qualifying for Europe. That is not something I ever dreamed of saying even 10 years ago! We've been through some dark times as a club in the past but somehow managed to end up where we are now. Its easily the best and most skillful Albion team I've ever seen us field in over 45 years of watching us and most Albion fans are fairly humble about where we've come from and not like the entitled type of fans you get at Chelsea, Man City etc. Looking forward to welcoming all you Mariners down for a great FA cup tie.

There is no chance of any additional allocation. ST holders in the East stand and SW corner being moved from their usual seats already have chance to buy elsewhere in the stadium.

Just to let you know the cost of the ticket includes certain travel plans, this includes park and ride, buses in the area to and from the Amex but also a zone of train travel. This means you only need to buy a train return ticket to Haywards Heath. The return ticket from Haywards Heath to Falmer (The station 100 yards from the Amex) is included in the ticket price. Therefore don't pay to go beyond Haywards Heath it's all covered.

Clear guidance about the various crowd capacities at The Amex.
Just as well this tie is not at Blundell Park. If Brighton fans had innocently asked what our stadium capacity was, we would still be here in a years time arguing about the correct total capacity. But

i think those saying that at least Brighton won't tonk us like Moan U or Citeh could do, should take a look at Brighton's performances and league position this year. They are a VERY good side ,and if they turn up it could easily be a tonking

There is always the risk of an early goal against us.
We generally do well against better teams.
We only conceded very late away to Palace. And that was with 10 men.. We did not concede at Everton or Middlesbrough. A We won at Liverpool, Everton, Villa and Middlesbrough. We came from behind to beat Liverpool.
We were well-beaten at Chelsea.
Brighton will be a very tough challenge. They do however, have a history of being by lower-league teams in cups.

I’d have been a lot happier with this draw 15-20 years ago when Brighton was as shite as us 😂
Hey 26 years ago and the positions were reversed. 25 years ago had we been relegated out of the league I don't think we would have survived, no ground etc. Unlike you guys who have managed to go through that hell, get back into the league and are now playing in the 1/4 finals. Hats off to you. Its funny though the same year we drew to stay in the league you got relegated from Div 1, and our fortunes continued in opposite ways. Helped in no small part by us having a local, life long fan who also happens to be rather well off.

Really looking forward to coming to Brighton. It's amazing to think we are in the last 8. Im glad you Fulham and Brentford are doing so well this season. I remember when I was about 16 and going with my mates to support you at Scunthorpe away I think it was 1996 the season you just stayed up. We sat in the Brighton end. I've always had a soft spot for your club after that.

Sometimes it worth looking at a dear the other way.
Of course it would’ve been great to get a northern team or indeed, anyone at home but if you think about it, everyone probably wanted to draw town. Lowest team left, technically the worst team in the draw. Deep down any of the other 7 would’ve been buzzing drawing us at home.
That said, any half sensible fan will know it’s the cup and sometimes, occasionally it doesn’t go to plan. Brighton fans, the sensible ones remember where they came from and their history in cup competitions is no better than ours so they’ll want to win. That in itself should make for a decent atmosphere and potentially a decent game.
Football is funny though, as I’ve said elsewhere, some heroic defending, a stoic and dedicated performance from Clifton, a worldy from Mcatee or some flipping moronic play from a Brighton player and who knows, we might just go and do it.
Thinking about it, the way football works, most folk will want us to win, not Brighton. Everyone loves the underdog…

That’s the difference - you moved into a period where your owner came in and did the right things for the right reason. Our owner just saw a property fortune pot of gold at the end of a relocation rainbow. Yes from a financial point of view Man U away would have been great but this is definitely a great draw too as it keeps the focus on our club “magic of the cup” etc.. which will despite patchy league form help with season ticket sales etc..and maybe even a bit around recruitment. Maybe just maybe the VAR gods will once again be kind to us.

I think he’s referring to when they stayed in the football league on the last day of the season in 1997, the same day (or possibly the day before) we beat Southend 4-0 on the last day of the season but went down anyway.

Interesting that De Zerbi is playing Jason Steele in goal ahead of Robert Sánchez today against West Ham.
Jason Steele is proper, Tommy Forecast level, dôgwânk.
Although I suspect it’s because Steele is the ‘Cup keeper’ but now the serious stuff is starting, with the QF against us, Sánchez will be playing in the Cup. Today’s Steele outing could just be a green chip tossed on the seafront floor for him to gobble up to soften the blow of missing out on playing the Mariners.

ROBERT SANCHEZ FACT
His league debut came for Forest Green in their 4-1 opening day win at BP in 2018. The one where Paul Dixon played at left wing back and Danny Collins scored that own goal. More Sanchez facts to come before the big day.

They’ve a better chance of qualifying for Europe through the league than through the Cup so I hope they win every PL until our game as they *might* start a slightly weaker team if they’re in a good position then.

Yeah but we hammered West Ham the last time we played them too. Does Julian Dicks still play for them?

He is a lifelong Brighton fan, his grandfather, father, uncle and now brother have all been involved for 50 odd years. A wealthy family but Tony surpassed all their wealth and some. He is a multi billionaire and has stated the next Chairman will be his son who is currently a child! The club has no debt apart from his personal investment which didn't require any borrowing. The "debt" is slowly being converted into shares at the benefit of taxes etc. He will not lose interest anytime soon. We are so lucky to have a good source of clean money and apart from that someone who is so clever with his use of analysis of all players worldwide.

Sorry to dissapoint you but there is very little chance of us playing a weakened team, De Zerbi will likely field a very strong line-up. Having watched us today v West Ham it was men v boys, we absolutely battered them! Arguably our best performance of the season so far. Your boys will have to be on it from the start and be alive to the pace of the game, you don't get any time on the ball at this level and mistakes are often punished. Our Japanese winger, Mitoma, is on fire and could cause you a lot of problems. It should be a cracking cup tie and atmosphere, can't wait !

I have been very impressed with Brighton this season and last. They play very good pass and move football, with speed and threat. They are on a totally different level to Southampton and I very much doubt we can live with them, but as ever with football, you never know.
Still can't believe we beat Everton all those years ago. They totally battered us for the entire game and were a very formidable team, but somehow we beat them with a wonder strike and backs to the wall defending.
The most one sided game against us we have won in my 50 years following Town

I have to admit I have a soft spot for Brighton. Just simply because of the way they conduct themselves and play football the right way. I enjoy watching them and Arsenal. I don't support anyone else except Grimsby but I do look out for BAHAFC results

Read an article about Tony Bloom a bit ago and then watched an interview because I was interested as he seems a bright fella and has managed to make a hell of a lot of money from something most of us just lose at -gambling . He has some of the biggest single wins on the horses ever and when younger was a professional poker player -amazing what hes done with your club.

Think the reality of the task ahead hit home watching the Brighton highlights last night!
However, a win would be the biggest in our history (and one of the biggest in FA Cup history) and the excitement for that won’t fade in the next 2 weeks.

If I get tickets I'm going with 0 expectations of any sort of result. I just want us, as the fans, to really get behind the team like we did at Southampton. Show the world who we are and why a player should play for us. I have to say, how poor was Carlisles support? Never heard a single word from them. As the Grimsby fans sang "just like a library"

You often don't get any time on the ball at lower levels as players go flying in, often we get a bit more time against a team that wants to play football. Obviously though the moment you lose it you are far more likely to be punished against a quality team such as yourselves.

Was it Chelsea that gave Scunny the full gate receipts from their cup match a while back? That’d be nice wouldn’t it? Brighton don’t need the cash, would be a nice PR boost for them. I’ll send Mr Bloom an email

Definitely. Thanks for reminding me of that Everton game - I've switched allegiance from the "There's no way we don't get tonked at Brighton" camp (for which I now feel suitably and properly ashamed) to your "I very much doubt we can live with them" camp. There's no doubt the fates conspired in our favour at Southampton; we'll need all that and more at the Amex though.

Yup, and since then the w@makers at the FA have put a stop to it. I seem to recall Arsenal were happy to take nothing from their game at Sutton but instead donated a sum to their training facilities.

It may sound an odd comment but as well as your players the size of your pitch might hurt us as well, your players have great movement and the ability to move the ball very quickly and open up the pitch, something you don’t see at L2 level that often. It would be a massive compliment if your manager played a really strong side to be honest.

You could email the CEO Paul Barber Paul.barber@bhafc.co.uk. He will answer you directly (not pass it on to a secretary). He is well known by Brighton fans for his engagement and loves an email, however expect a long reply! Again it's something Brighton are great at ,they are all approachable, Tony Bloom often travels with the fans on the train with a few tinnys to sup. Also he will join the fans in the crowd when away. New players are given a history lesson on the club and are aware of the bad times we suffered.

Everton were an outstanding team and won a euro trophy. They were undefeated in the league at home that season. Our win was massively against the odds. Brighton could be the same - but don’t bank on it. A Brighton fan above said you can email their Chairman direct and he will reply. If it helps my wife’s grandmother was called Bloom.

Southampton fans frequently posted that we were 16th in Div 2. Not that we were a Div 2 team. It is an additional emphasis on how lowly we are. By inference that they should win easily.
If this mindset gets slightly in the minds of PL players then their motivation must be affected. We are now 17th. Ironically, unlike Southampton, Brighton have a long history of being beaten by lower-league opposition. Charlton beat them in the League Cup recently. Reported that their manager is still very annoyed at this slip. But it happened.
We might end up with a Chelsea score. However, this team has repeatedly proved to be exceptionally resilient and tough to beat in cup games. We are winners. If we can hold out early and frustrate them then who knows?
In 6 FAC games we have been high scorers and very tight defensively in the first half. 7 goals scored against Plymouth and Luton in 2 games. No goals conceded in any first half since Plymouth (5th min). Some confidence for playing Brighton early on.
Brighton are used to winning and used to winning well. They do not know how we play. We BBC are an unknown surprise package.

Logic dictates that Town will get utterly hammered by Brighton - I watched MOTD this morning thinking we have utterly zero chance. Brighton are such a good team with no much talent that this is going to need a total miracle to keep them out.
A good football club as well - they deserve it after the wilderness years of losing the Goldstone ground and having to play "home" games at (checks notes) Gillingham (WTF!). I just remembered their game versus Hereford to stay in the football league (oof - showing my age)
However, the sheer blind faith of football fans means that I am already ensuring I have no plans for semi-final weekend. Stupid me.

Anyone know when the tickets are on sale??
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Not been announced yet but surely must be Tuesday, assuming the tickets are couriered up tomorrow?
ST Holders had 3 days for Southampton (Mon, Tue, Wed), then a day for 1878 members (Thu) followed by Trust members (Fri) and general sale the following Monday.
Would be very surprised if this makes it past ST Holders and I’m absolutely bricking it at the thought of having to buy 8 or 9 on that platform.

The more I think about it, they’ll probably start the sales Wednesday.
That platform is dreadful and with a home game Tuesday, makes sense to get that out the way then whack em on sale.
I have little faith in the online system.
I’ve also made sure I’m available semi final weekend. I understand football logic but I also know about luck, fluke and the fact football is not predictable.

How quickly will it sell out then do people think? Seen people saying they'll all sell out on the very first day of sales! I can't see that happening at all, I like to think it will sell out but I feel a handful of tickets may make general sale

I reckon a fair few will make general sale , I doubt all of our 5800 season ticket holders will be able to make it to Brighton

None at all will make general sale, a few hundred MAY make it to 1878 club membership, and there is Trust membership after that.

Important to remember that we only sold around 2000 from ST holders and 1878 combined for Southampton.
If we suddenly sold out 4500 for a similar trip then I’d be questioning who was actually using those season tickets.

Southampton was a mid-week evening kickoff. Brighton is on a Sunday afternoon so I think the difference will mean very few tickets will make the general sale.

Yeah, I didn't go to Southampton, but Brighton on a weekend is a different matter, plus it's a quarter final and it's likely the only time any fans would see us in one in a lifetime.

Exactly.
Taking away the fact it was at a Premier League ground, the Southampton tie was largely unappealing. 5th Round was done as recent (comparatively!) as 1996 and it was midweek.
I can't imagine there's many people who've seen Town live in an FA Cup Quarter Final before, especially with some faith, perhaps misguided, that we can get something from it.
Argument that train strikes will impact on numbers but I think anyone going from the NE Lincs area would find it such a ballache even with normal train service that they would seek alternative arrangements anyway.

You can't do it on the train from Gy. First train out of Gy gets to Brighton at 14:37! You'd have to drive to either Donny or Newark to do it on the train in time for ko.

Good to see that in the link to Brighton fans (above) that a fan said Matt Tees always scored against them in the 1960s at Brighton. Never forgotten.

After the thrashing of United yesterday I do not think that we should be unduly concerned about Brighton easily beating Liverpool recently. They only beat them twice in one week.

.. Each club involved in these televised fifth round ties will receive £125,000 in addition to any payment from the competition's prize fund. .. So it is £125,000 just for being on live tv, plus a share of gate money after costs, my working out would be around £270,000 based on a crowd of 30,000, so GTFC should walk away that night with around £395,000. Assuming GTFC lose. I will not mention the stratospheric amounts should they _ _ _.

It’d be somewhere in the region of £3m, mate. - £360k for winning the QF - ~£1.75m Wembley gate receipts - £900k losers fee in the SF More details in the link below, but it would be a crazy amount of money for a club of our size. Very difficult to see a way it could happen in reality, but how great is it that we’re even having this discussion? https://sillyseason.com/money/fa-cup-prize-money-116338/?amp=1

On one side of the coin, Brighton have Palace a few days before our game.
The other side is that they've not got any fixtures for a fortnight after owing to International duties.
We, on the other hand, travel to Sutton on the Tuesday before (our sixth consecutive midweek fixture) and then host Mansfield on the Tues (expect this to be pushed back to the Weds) for our seventh consecutive midweek fixture.
I think it's fair to say we won't be getting their reserve side!

I may be wrong, but I expect given the stage of the competition, the significance of the game to them and the fact we just embarrassed their south coast rivals in the previous round, Brighton will start pretty strong with a view to taking control of the game and then subbing their better players. We stand very little chance if that’s the approach they take - they have the option of fielding 8 players who played at the World Cup at the end of last year, including 1 who won the bloody thing. I think you just have to take the view that it will be a great and proud occasion and anything beyond that, anything at all, is a huge bonus.

Southampton we’re somewhere around 1/3 3/10 to win
Brighton are 1/8 with town being 17/1
Brighton are now 3rd favourite @ 5/1 to win it outright (I guess given the draw) and town are 275/1
It still seems so surreal that we are talking about the club in the 1/4 finals of the greatest club competition in the world. Even should we get beaten heavily, the team deserve all the adulation that they will receive.

The link shows the travel arrangements. Note your ticket will give you free travel within the areas shown. Therefore those travelling on the day via train you only need a ticket to Haywards Heath. The rest is included in the ticket price. There's park and ride schemes running but these fill up quickly. There's some parking near the ground that can be booked.
If you're not interested in visiting Brighton centre and coming down by train may I suggest going to Lewes via Haywards Heath then change for Falmer (the ground). Brighton gets busy and again you will need to change there for Falmer.
Those driving can also park in Lewes (parking is free on a Sunday in the council car parks) then again jump on the train to Falmer (again included in your ticket price)
Loads of pubs in Lewes all fan friendly.

(Falmer is only 500 seats smaller than St Mary’s. Unlike our little cousins we fill our ground though.) Congrats on beating them btw and we look forward to welcoming you all to (hopefully) sunny Sussex. Should be a great occasion. Looking forward to the inflatables-fest! Our lot (me included) have jumped on that bandwagon

Television broadcasting payments are 200k for each club in the QF. https://www.thefa.com/news/2023/mar/03/fa-cup-quarter-final-tv-selectionsI also believe you get money if on national radio like talksport but I cannot confirm this . The fee is low though.

Last season I can remember looking at Borehamwood and wondering how they fell apart so spectacularly towards the end of their cup run, where they got to the 5th round and were beaten away at Everton. Up to their 4th rd match they’d lost only twice all year in the league, and that was in February. After their 5th rd loss, they won only 3 matches for the entire rest of the season and lost 13 of the remaining 23.
They looked nailed on for the playoffs, minimum, around Christmas but eventually the distraction and fixture schedule caught up on them. Think they were also flown to Dubai for a week’s jolly up in the middle of the season which can’t have helped.
Couldn’t quite understand how you could be so distracted at the time, but can certainly appreciate it now.
