Inspired by the best away match thread: what’s been the best Town performance of the season? Team or individual if you want.

Three candidates for me all from the cup run (really struggling to think of any league ones I’ve seen): Plymouth H and Luton A and H. We had attacking selection problems in all three (more so than normal) but in the two home games we were absolutely rampant scoring 8 against teams who will be in at least the Championship next season.

The Luton away performance was simply graft and grit to get the result. I was overjoyed to get the replay but what came after was obviously incredible.

Both the Plymouth and Luton home performances were excellent as were the league cup game against Crewe and away game at Crewe…

Plymouth at home was decent, but they were absolutely terrible after taking a 5th minute lead. For me, it has to be Luton at home - we blew them away in the first half and that Amos free kick was the icing on the cake.

Beating Southampton hasn’t even had a mention! Although they are having a terrible season, they still had a far superior quality of player. What they came up against though was a team focused on the job at hand and 4200 northerners full of voice

Plymouth at home as it came as a complete shock that we could play that way....
Sutton oops Crawley away...got my tinpot southern teams mixed up...one league game were we totally dominated play, looked bright inventive and exciting to watch throughout. Only marred by one mistake.

Plymouth as PH and the players worked out how to beat them.

Away? Southampton as we held on for the win.

The late goal ruined it but I also thought we looked great at Crawley.

Should have put that game to bed long before they equalised. We looked very impressive that night.

Luton away. Guile, skill, determination, desire

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.
