Has signed for Cleethorpes on a permanent deal, I had no idea he had been released? I heard there was no final youths coming up, I think I always assumed he was the year group below.
Best of luck to the lad. At the very least he has his name firmly placed in the Town history books.

Pretty sure he was a winger/no10 when he made his debut, yet Clee have announced him as being a left back.

Unless we uncover a lad with Rooney like potential I don’t think we will either, that or we end up with an idiot manager and the club on life support again…

Sometimes happens with young players, they're better facing forwards so start at full back and progress further forwards as they gain experience and confidence. Gareth Bale is the ultimate example.

I think we all know that isn't the case here, he was billed as an attacking player and thrust into the first team to try generate a significant transfer fee. If Boyd was as good as a certain someone made out at the time then he wouldn't be signing for Cleethorpes this summer.

Always baffles me how quiet / lacking of an official statement about 2nd year Youth's - it's the same every season we have to just assume those that haven't got senior contracts, in this season's case none, have been released
Would be nice to see some names though, other clubs include 'youth players who have not been offered senior terms' on their retained lists so it cant be a case of not being allowed to do that due to their age? We just obviously don't?
Like you say, particularly with Boyd looking like being part of this years' released YTs, it would have been nice to hear about it officially from the club

Completely agree, some of these lads have been with Town since under 8 level so some slight acknowledgment would be a nice gesture. Regarding Boyd, it was a huge surprise to everyone in the youth system when he was called up by Holloway, he’d not even played for the youth team at that point.

Wasn’t he wanted by some premier league teams or a Scottish premier league team?
Personally I think chucking a 16 year old in to the first team, at any level is a huge gamble. Injuries, mental ability/aptitude and confidence could impact them personally and professionally
Or was it just so Holloway could get 5 more minutes on tv?

Maybe the club prefer to take a more dignified approach to letting youngest leave without plastering it all over the media, was recently talking to a bloke who had been in the Newcastle academy from the age of 8 and he was telling me of the hurt he felt on being released at the age of 18. He came and had weeks trial at town who he said looked after him so well but there was no money in the budget to sign him. He must have had something about him he played along side Andy caroll he made of course a bitter pill that some never recover f4om

Do we loan out the young players enough, i've seen some go out loan but is the standard any good for them?

Loaning out youth team players is virtually unheard of at any level, it’s only when they turn professional and reach the ages of 18/19 that they get loaned out.

Your logic doesn't quite work...I played alongside Paul Wilkinson at school. He was very good and I was a veritable cart horse.

Think you are thinking of the first year professionals, it's very rare a youth player gets loaned out. In terms of our first year pro's... * Jamie Bramwell had two spells with Whitby and one with Gainsborough. * Edwin Essel played for Grimsby Borough and Cleethorpes * Jaz Goundry had two spells with Grimsby Borough and one with Matlock. * Harvey Tomlinson played for Whitby and Cleethorpes. * Aaron Braithwaite went to Whitby for a month.

Not talking about the school cart horse which I was one but someone who had dedicated 10 years of their life listening to coaches tell them what a future they had

So the first year pro’s spend their time being sent to Clee Town (Tomlinson and Essel) and Gy Boro (Bramwell and Essel) whilst the released players go to Clee Town (Boyd) and Grimsby Boro (Moore) ??

I think that's the right level for them to go though, also probably the only realistic options too.
Realistically we're not going to see many clubs at Conference level. Perhaps the really developed ones might get a chance at Conf. North clubs like Boston or in the Northern Premier League, which is what's happened with a few of the lads going to Whitby. The level below Whitby is the level both Cleethorpes and GY Borough are in.
Tomlinson, Bramwell, Essell and Braithwaite are all second-year pros now so they might find themselves at a Gainsborough Trinity or back at Whitby in the Northern Premier League or maybe a Boston, even Scunthorpe, this season.
Harry Clifton's loan spell at Grantham (Northern Premier League) was as a second year pro. Max Wright's first loan spell, again in the Northern Premier League, was as a second year pro. The year after, as a third year pro, he was in the same league with Scarborough. Then in his fourth year as a professional he went to Boston in the Conf. North.

The NPL East is a competitive league and ideal as a first loan to guage where they are at, whilst playing for a local club with fans genuinely wishing them well.
Jaz Goundry was at that level last season with Bridlington, stepped up a level with Matlock this season but ended up at Borough and didn't look very good when I saw him. Essel has looked very good and strong when I've seen him for Clee and Borough, his first team experience was limited by our cup run which kept him around here but he looks capable of stepping up at least a level this season.
Braithwaite and Bramwell seemed to be well thought of by Whitby fans a level higher, so hopefully they can step up a level this season too.

Anyone remember that American lad we signed to the youth set up a few years ago, was a fair bit of chat about him - what happened to him?

Interesting what you find when you're trying to answer your own question. Had a look here: https://www.transfermarkt.co.u.....p;option=0&art=0 Which shows most of GTFC youth products and where they are. A fella called Christos Sielis that we had as a U18 currently playing regularly for the 6th team in the Greek Super League... random fact of the day there!
