I see that agent fees for the period 1st February 2023 -1st February 2024 (i.e. the summer and winter transfer windows) have been published. On the basis that agents are a necessary evil and there is correlation between the budget and agent fees, I count 10 teams with a lower spend on agents than ourselves, suggesting that our budget was probably a mid-table budget.

No surprises to see Wrexham at the top of the list, but FGR are likely to finish bottom of the pile this season and they spent the second most on agents (£226k).

About £1.5 million spent by 9 club and 15 clubs spend less than a million between them. Apart from FGR, as mentioned above, Salford spent £160,000 and depending on results could finish below us

Agents aren’t stupid. They know which clubs pay agents fees and which don’t. They’ll get their money either way. If they know a club won’t pay their fees then the player wage demands will be higher and they’ll take their cut that way. The club pays one way or another.

I would doubt FGR would spend that much next time around if Cotterill remains...he seems to have steadied things there but I think he is their fourth manager this season !! And having Deeney in at transfer window...well fck me

In the National League:

York City spent £128,902
Champions Chesterfield - £52,722

In League 1:

The Imps - £145,601*
Wigan - £392,223**
Fleetwood - £396,184
Derby - £434,465

*down £80k from the previous season, and permanent signings have been very good overall.
**no wonder they keep getting point deductions for cheating.

What on Earth have Fleetwood been doing? That spend is almost as barmy as the FGR figure given where they are in the table.
