Lawrence: Body Blow

Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence described the home defeat by Crewe as "a real body blow". The visitors went into a two goal lead at half time, with two goals from Rob Hulse in the 29th and 35th minutes. Lawrence added: "We expected to win. It was most disappointing."

Lawrence bemoaned the fact the Crewe had opened the scoring, despite Grimsby creating the bulk of the changes during the early part of the game, saying: "Had we scored first it might have been different. But we lacked the killer instinct."

The Grimsby manager felt that Crewe, having taken the lead, were the better team on the day, and conceded that the Mariners had been "embarrassed" by the division's lowliest team. "Once Crewe got organised their pace and movement embarrassed us a great deal." said a disappointed Lawrence.

Lawrence decided to start with Chinese international Zhang Enhua despite the defender returning late from a friendly between Lazio and China during the week.
