Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Grimsby Net Cramb

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 27/09/2004

FORMER Crewe and Shrewsbury striker Colin Cramb has signed for Grimsby on a non-contract basis. Cramb parted company with the Shrews over the weekend after being released from his contract at Gay Meadow, and headed straight to Blundell Park to team up with Russell Slade.

Much-travelled Cramb began his career in his native Scotland with Hamilton, Falkirk and Hearts before heading south of the border. The 5'11" forward, who has never spent more then two years at any one club, is best known for his time spent at Bristol City and Crewe.

Cramb spent last season at Shrewsbury, where he helped the Shropshire club bounce back to the Football League at the first attempt from relegation to the Conference, scoring 12 goals from only 24 league starts (plus 11 sub appearances). The 30-year-old front man then fell out of favour this season at Gay Meadow, and sought to be released from his contract. After a brief trial at Blundell Park, when Cramb featured in a reserve win against York, Grimsby then became his next port of call.

Cramb goes straight into the squad for Town's LDV game with Carlisle on Tuesday night. Defender Rob Jones is also expected to return against the Cumbrians after missing most of the season with a knee injury. It is a game in which Russell Slade is widely expected to ring the changes, especially with Town playing a day earlier on Friday night.
