Nielsen Slams Lawrence

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 12/12/2000

Just hours after appearing to be heading to an agreement with Grimsby Town over a permanent move, David Nielsen has sensationally branded Mariners manager Lennie Lawrence as "unprofessional". The shock statement appeared in an interview with Danish website, Onside.dk, earlier today.

It would appear that Nielsen feels he is not being fairly rewarded for his achievements since he joined the club on a three-month loan deal as he told reporters:

"I have made a salary request which is not extreme, but would make me the best paid at the club. It seems to me that it is natural given the success that I have had since I came."

The Dane then went on to blast Mariners boss Lennie Lawrence, saying: "I have told the manager that he acts very unprofessionally.

"On the one hand, they try to agree a contract with me, on the other hand, they go out and criticize me publicly.

I don't recognise the figures mentioned in the Danish press concerning my demands - I have no idea where they get their "reliable" information from."

This amazing development comes on the very same day that Lawrence had criticised the local press for inaccurate reports concerning the deal.

Many thanks to Steffen Ploeger for help with translations.
