Nielsen Dons Trial

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/03/2001

DANISH striker David Nielsen, who was on loan at Grimsby Town for three months, has returned to the UK to join South London club Wimbledon for a week's trial. With front man Jason Euell possibly out of contract at the end of the season, the Dons have pencilled in Nielsen as a long-term replacement.

The former Danish under-21 international enjoyed a three month loan spell at Blundell Park, before failing to agree personal terms for a permanent contract with the Mariners, and controversially returned to FC Copenhagen a month ago.

The Fishy contacted David Nielsen's Danish agent Poul-Erik Pedersen, who confirmed that Nielsen had joined Wimbledon for a week's trial. The trial period could see the ex-Grimsby striker returning to Blundell Park next Tuesday in the re-arranged fixture against the Mariners, although the Dane would only feature in the game having signed for the Dons.

Nielsen has made no secret of the fact that we wishes to stay in English football, and earlier had an unsuccessful trial at Premiership strugglers Bradford City, before returning to Denmark.
