Having caused Town problems in the final game of the 90/91 season against Exeter, Alan Buckley paid the Devon outfit 50k for Jones. Buckley decided that a target man may be required and big Keith Alexander was never replaced. Jones, standing at 6’4, seemed the ideal replacement.
However, even though Jones was a better player than Alexander, Town were two divisions higher and Jones struggled. Buckley didn’t really help Jones by giving him the ‘Chris Hargreaves’ role of coming of the bench for two minutes when already losing. Jones was sold after a season to Brentford for 50k.
