Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Your Support Matters

TODAY'S Observer lists the average attendances of Division One clubs, and unsurprisingly it reflects how the league table, with very few exceptions, mirrors how many people pass through the gates.

Home > Features > Your Support Matters

For instance, the top 5 in the league today are: Man City, Wolves, Millwall, West Brom and Burnley, and on average attendances WBA are 5th, Forest 4th, Birmingham 3rd and the top two are the same.

Of the bottom six in the league only Sheffield Wednesday average over 7,500 fans per game. The Owls are 6th in the attendance table, whilst mid-table Wimbledon are 22nd. These two teams are the most notable exceptions to a otherwise uniform trend - the more fans you get the more successful you are.

All of the following clubs average between 5,975 and 7,108 per game: Stockport, Grimsby, Wimbledon, Walsall, Crewe, and Rotherham - five out of six of whom are in the bottom half dozen teams in the division.

The moral of the story is that your support really does matter, and if only more of the population of Grimsby had a bit more faith in their local side, it could be such a different story than Town's current situation.
