Allen Believes The Mariners Can Escape Relegation

By: Richard Lord
Date: 18/02/2002

GRIMSBY Town's returning striker Bradley Allen spoke to the Evening Telegraph of the Mariners' thoroughly deserved 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at Blundell Park on Saturday and also commented on how the team must now build on the morale-boosting win.

"We've got to win as many games as we can," said Allen "We've got a massive lift and we need to reproduce that six or seven times to give us a chance of beating the drop. The key games will be the ones at home and we're still hanging by a thread.

"It's more than a great escape. It's 10 war films rolled into one and the players and the supporters are all aware of that. But it's always possible and we've got to focus on the game at Nottingham Forest and take it from there.

"We can only keep going and we have to do something that we haven't done since the start of the season, and that's put three or four wins together back-to-back. That has to be the aim and if we can get them we'll be on our way.

"It was a buoyant dressing room after the game and the younger players have got a confidence lift from that. The young lads all did well today and Mick Boulding played particularly well, so for them to get something for that sort of effort is very pleasing."
