Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Pringle Career Doubt - Continued

By: Richard Lord
Date: 07/03/2002

IN another interview with the Grimsby Telegraph Pringle said he is amazed that Paul Groves' side are locked in a battle to beat the drop. "From what I saw in the few days I was there I couldn't believe they were down the bottom."

"That was my first thought when I trained with them. I don't think they've got any problems in staying up. All the crowd that came back for the Stockport game was what the team needed. They came for the Crystal Palace game and that lift was what everyone needed."

"They can make the difference this season to help Grimsby stay up. Then next season it's a new year and you start afresh. There's loads of games left and it looks a lot better for them."

Pringle said Andy Todd might extend his loan until the end of the season.

"Andy is such a good player. I couldn't say for definite if he'll stay, but he wants to play football. If he's happy I think he'll stay. It's better for him to be playing first-team football than going back to Charlton and not playing at all. I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to stay for another month."

"Personally I haven't decided on anything yet, but it wouldn't be too surprising if I end up coming to a game up there."

Pringle is home again in London but said he has been overwhelmed by the support he has received from Town and the club's fans.

"I only played 50 or 60 minutes in front of the Grimsby fans and, from the response I got afterwards, I realised what impact I had made, even though I was only a very short time. I was beginning to feel sharper and was going the right way, then somebody sweeps you off the chair and you're back at square one."

"I've no end of support from the staff and the players at the club. I've had lots of letters from Grimsby fans, and one of the staff brought me a printout of all the e-mails they've had - there were loads. I've also had letters from support from Charlton fans and from back home in Sweden."

"It's support I don't want in a way because I'd rather be playing, but it's nice that people have thought of me!"
