Injury Crisis May Help Cooke!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 13/12/2002

TERRY Cooke could be set to return in Grimsby Town's clash at Deepdale tomorrow as manager Paul Groves faces a fresh injury crisis as Darren Barnard took a whack on the shin and Stuart Campbell is suffering from a chest infection.

In their report the Grimsby Telegraph said that it was originally feared Barnard may have broken his leg, but the injury settled down overnight.

Paul Groves said, "It's not as bad as we first thought but he's looking very doubtful." Stuart Campbell has had to go to the doctor's today and he looks like he's coming down with a chest infection. It's not looking good. We've got to have a roll call and see who's fit. It's as simple as that."

With Skipper John McDermott definitely out Groves is forced to make at least one change to the defence. Simon Ford to move across to right back with Groves alongside Jason Gavin.

Darren Mansaram is fit after a groin strain and looks like partnering Livvo again up front with Santos possibly replacing Stacy Coldicott in midfield.

"We'll give ourselves a great chance if we get our concentration right and play like we have done in the majority of the games so far." said Groves. "It's important to stop losing because we're going into a period with a lot of games. If we can go into them playing quite well and with a result behind us we can bounce from one game to the next with confidence and belief." "If we get that going we won't feel like we've played a lot of games and everybody will be waiting for the next one."

Grimsby Town: Coyne, Ford, Gavin, Groves, Gallimore, Barnard, Coldicott, Pouton, Santos, Campbell, Mansaram, Livingstone, Allaway, Ward, Soames, Thompson, Cooke, Rowan, Parker.
