106 Reasons to be Cheerful!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/03/2003

THE crucial signatures needed for the "106 agreement" required before Town's new stadium can go ahead could now only be a matter of days away.

Legal delays had meant that the end of February deadline had passed without the signatories putting pen to paper, but NELC are prepared to overlook this.

The parties concerned in the agreement (developers Chiltern Investment Properties, Sir Richard Sutton’s Settled Estates, Grimsby Town FC and NELC) had been given until the end of February to sign the 106 agreement protecting Great Coates village from any disruption caused by the new stadium.

Legal technicalities, however, are understood to have delayed the process, but NELC councillors have formally agreed to extend the deadline if there was a chance of an agreement, which is now the case - and it is expected to be signed shortly.

Town's prolonged battle for a new home has required immense patience on the part of the fans desperate to leave Blundell Park for a more fitting setting for Division One football in the 21st century. Perhaps more important is the additional revenues that a new stadium, with modern facilities, would bring to the region's most significant sporting outfit and best known brand name.
