Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Fishy Feedback Time!

THERE has been a mixed reaction on the MB to the Tony Hamilton article about Lennie Lawrence and the comparison with Paul Groves. Even Alan Buckley has had a mention or two. We publish here two responses submitted by our overseas supporters.

Geoff Ogley writes; "Yes Tony Hamilton [keeping up with the Lawrences]. I can understand your fustration but cash has been a problem at the club for as long as I can remember and, as you admit, LL during his stint contributed to that problem.

Whilst not condoning the actions of the Board, they act at times in a very amateurish manner. I understand their concern. They have poured vast amounts of money into the club over the years, with no expectations of ever getting a return on their investments or ever seeing the club gracing the Premiership. It must be their love for the club. Would you ever consider investing thousands of pounds of your savings in the club?

Fact: The ground holds about 10 thousand spectators. When was the last time that the Mariners played before a full house? Even when the club is playing well, it`s rare that the attendance climbs above the 6-7000 figure.

A club can survive for so long whilst losing money, and using the usual 5-6000 attendance as a guide, we only qualify for the 3rd division, or 2nd at best.

Don't get me wrong. I love Grimsby Town and want to see them successful. I've been through many highs and lows. I remember the days of Tweedy, Betmead, Wardle etc. with fondness, and whilst I now live on the other side of the world-the Mariners are still my club, and always will be.

My regards to all associated with the club." Geoff Ogley.

Bill Coxon on the other hand agrees with Tony's views saying; "Tony Hamilton is right on. Firing LL was a big mistake, seeing what he has done at Cardiff and what Groves has NOT done for the mariners.

He is totally out of his depth and we are now in Division 2 with the prospect of Division 3. The board are a disaster. How long ago were we at Wembley with a good team and a good manager?"

Firing Buckley was the start of our troubles and it has been downhill ever since. Bill Coxon
