FORMER Grimsby Town manager Alan Buckley has been appointed in charge of 3rd Division Rochdale after spending over a year on the sidelines after leaving Lincoln City in April 2002.

Buckley had two highly successful spells as Grimsby manager from 1988-2000 before joining the Imps, and still lives in the town.

A statement issued by Rochdale said: "The board of directors felt it was extremely important to appoint a manager with a wealth of experience. This is certainly something Alan Buckley will bring to the club. He has gained promotion on several occasions and his sides have a good reputation for playing attractive football."
