Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Improvements All Round At BP!

Date: 28/06/2003

THERE have been big changes behind the scenes at Blundell Park this summer. The Mariners' historic ground has been undergoing a facelift to provide better facilities.

With a new stadium on the back-burner at present, Town have to make the best use of the resources they have and they have set to work to do just that.

In the John Smith's Stand a new bar has been created on the ground floor where food will also be available, while the former lottery office will be the new boardroom.

Upstairs, the lounge next to the boardroom has been extended and modernised while the boardroom itself will now be used by the matchday sponsor.

At the Osmond Stand end of the ground, a former gym has been converted into a bar for away fans and a kiosk will also be provided.

A new scoreboard has also been ordered for the spot on the Osmond roof, this is expected to be delivered and installed next week.Home fans have also been given the opportunity to sponsor their own seat. For £25 a season (£15 juniors) they can have their name on their regular spot in the ground.

"We are providing better facilities and we want people to come and support the club," said commercial manager Tony Richardson. There are executive, vice-presidents' and legends bar memberships available and there are still one or two executive boxes."

The Jarvis sponsorship, the biggest in the club's history, has been an important boost, giving the Mariners a six-figure cash injection.

But apart from the York-based rail maintenance firm's backing, the club looks to the local business community for its support."It is the first time we have been in this division for six years and it is important that the club goes forward. I would urge local companies to back us," added Tony.

The commercial department numbers are 608006 and 608007.
