Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Questions for the Board

AS a far-flung Mariner resident on the South Coast it has been with dismay that I have witnessed the Club's descent since the heady days of trips to Wembley.

However the current position that Town are in comes as no surprise to any fan. A shoestring budget was never going to be able to sustain a Division One place, even had the ITV deal not collapsed.

The poor attendances reflect the apathy of Grimbarians towards their home town club and also the inactivity of a Board, that whilst I admire for having kept the Club afloat, have never looked like they had the initiative to captilise when things were going well.

Empty promises of new grounds and the like! Without which quality players are always going to be difficult to acquire.

Questions do need to be put to the Board. For example:

  • The playing squad has already been slashed but about two weeks ago a circular has been put out to other Clubs that Town are prepared for their players to go out on loan. Can that be interpreted that the 'white flag' is already being hoisted and that relegation is acceptable?

  • Two months ago the Board made enquiries with respect to going into administration. These enquiries were made to a Club that are currently in Division Three and who were in the same position themselves but a season or so ago. My information has come from the owner of that Club who is aware that I follow the Mariners.

  • How dire is the financial situation really and what steps are the Club taking to avoid administration or to try to attract people who are willing to take over?

Please do not take this as rumour mongering. I am involved with a non-League Club and would love these questions to be put to the Board.

To disclose more information regarding my identity or that of the Division Three Club would jeopardise my situation.

But I hope such questions can be raised.

In the meantime 'Up the Mariners'.
