Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Reddy, Steady, Go!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 20/07/2004

RUSSELL Slade finally caught his man today when Michael Reddy signed on at Blundell Park. Slade had been chasing him over the last couple of weeks with other clubs close on his tail. He will be delighted that Reddy has chosen to join the Mariners.

Reddy explained Slade's persistence was a big factor in him signing: "Russell pestered the life out of me really. He was ringing me at nine o'clock on a Saturday night and nine o'clock on a Sunday morning!"

Reddy was playing in the Irish National League Kilkenny City where Peter Reid spotted him and took him to Sunderland.

But he was loaned out to gain more experience and served Hull City, Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon.

Andy King approached Sunderland in a bid to sign Reddy but Reid responded by slapping a £5 million price tag on Reddy's head! Slade has continued to sing his praises so it seems we have captured a very capable player. He will certainly be in the starting line-up when the season begins.

Real name: Michael Reddy
Height: 6.01
Weight: 11.07
Date of birth: 24-03-1980
Place of birth: Graignamanagh
Position: Forward
