Beat the Bookies: New Year Special

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 31/12/2006

MACCLESFIELD once more came up winners with a very late goal to see Beat the Bookies move further into profit for the season! Boston however were surprisingly trounced by Rochdale.

Home > 2006-2007 Season > Beat the Bookies > New Year Special

New Year's Day has often produced some strange results, being at the end of the busy festive period. Grimsby unfortunately have not had a good Christmas, with two convincing defeats to Hartlepool and Stockport, two of their "bogey" sides. Unfortunately Rochdale in contrast have had a very good Christmas, and they have been another of Grimsby's bogey sides in recent seasons. Town also have Gary Croft missing from defence, and may be forced into playing a midfielder again in the back four. For this reason I reluctantly recommend the 11/4 available at Corals for an away win.

With nothing else in League Two looking tempting (Macclesfield winning yet again at home to Lincoln being the pick), it's time to enter the world of the Premiership and go for a really big upset, it being New Year's Day and all that. Arsenal are not firing on all cylinders at the moment, whereas Charlton finally are beginning to find some form under their new manager Alan Pardew. It would be a truly massive shock if Charlton were the first team to win at the Emirates but it's New Year's Day and you always get a big shock or two! Bet365.com offer 12/1 for an away win.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Rochdale to beat Grimsby (11/4).
  • 2. Charlton to beat Arsenal (12/1).
