February Player of the Month

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/02/2007

FEBRUARY 2007 saw a remarkable turnaround for the Mariners, coming as it did on the back of probably the bleakest month in the Mariners' 128 year history. Town started the month with the unlikeliest of wins: 6-0 away at Boston, and went on to win four games out of five in February.

The six players nominated by our readers for the February Player of the Month award, votes from which will count towards the eventual winner at the end of the season, are as follows:

Paul Bolland - When Bolland plays well Town tend to play well. Bolly is popular with the fans and plays with his heart on his sleeve in the centre of the park for the Mariners. After a long barren spell Bolly scored twice in two games during February.

Danny Boshell - Rejected by Stockport, 'Bosh' has shown the Hatters how wrong they were and has put in some superb performances in the centre of the park recently for the Mariners. Scored his first Grimsby goal against Bristol Rovers.

James Hunt - Seemed to get better as the month went on. Hunt is not the sort of player who gets the headlines and plaudits, but his passing and workrate in midfield were excellent during much of February.

Danny North - Catapulted from occasional appearances on the bench to stardom with two goals in the Bristol Rovers and Mansfield games. Local lad Danny North now has the job of filling Martin Paterson's boots, a suggestion which would have been scoffed at just a few weeks ago.

Tom Newey - Town's left back has improved considerably during Buckley's time in charge and he must now be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Ciaran Toner - The Irishman has finally started to show what many Town fans thought he was capable of, even if he is playing on the left wing, away from his favoured central midfield role.

Pleas vote using Question of the Week.
