Grimsby v Dagenham

By: Alex Green
Date: 14/02/2008

TOWN haven’t been on a run quite like this since I bought David Villa for us on Pro Evo. 11 unbeaten and 1 defeat in 15 an amazing run which now faces up against a Dagenham and Redbridge side who scored six on Tuesday night.

The Opposition

Overview

We reunite with the Daggers with them still in 22nd place and only one point further away from Mansfield since our 0-0 draw with them less then a month ago. Since then Dagenham and Redbridge have won 2 and lost 3 with their biggest league win ever in the Football League (6-2 against Chester). Although Chester are statistically the worst form team in the league the win gives nothing but hope to the borough of Barking. The recent mixed run of results are nothing but an improvement with a dismal seasonal period filling every Daggers' fan with dread. They came close to being cast adrift with Wrexham and Mansfield but a three point gap is far from comfortable as we well know. A win could shoot them up to 19th and give them a bit of a run of form after their 4-1 defeat at Hereford on Saturday.

The Team
Its all to tempting to say, see the last preview when we played them as nothing much has changed. Rainford and Streven have managed to add a few more to their goal tally’s otherwise. Dagenham are still in the same place with trouble still just over their shoulder. Manager John Still (above) has a relatively large squad to call upon one of the biggest in the league and still can count on some of the most experienced lower league players in the country. The likes of Anwar Uddin(left) and former Tottenham youth Danny Foster are charged with keeping Danny North and co off the score sheet while Strevens and Rainford are the ones Still hopes can find a chink in our impressive record.

Key Player
Ben Strevens (left) of local born Edgware has a vast array of non league football experience starting his career at Barnet. He was loaned to several clubs starting with Slough and moving on to Crawley and finally St Albans. Since signing from Barnet at the end of 2006 he’s managed to grab 14 this season alone and many eyebrows were raised when Streven wasn’t signed up by a bigger club in January. Fast and a quick reaction has helped him become a great playmaker and an essential member of a squad desperately trying to save their league position

Team News

TownDagenham
Danny Boshell is a doubt with a thigh strain, and Paul Bolland may return in his place. Midfielders Paul Bolland and Ciaran Toner are both fully fit and available for selection.

  • Ryan Hall has had his loan period at Dagenham extended by another month.

  • Dagenham have completed the loan signing of centre back Mark Arber until the end of the season. He made his debut in the midweek thrashing of Chester.

A boring 0-0 draw in a game which neither team deserved to win. Hunt had Grimsby's best chance, but he shinned the ball at the crucial moment.
