Bradford v Grimsby Preview

By: Alex Green
Date: 30/01/2009

GRIMSBY have made a near perfect start to 2009, now the Newell Revolution pulls in to Valley Parade with banners and slogans abound. With less then a week to go before the end of the transfer window Newell will hope to bring in some new faces to improve the already vastly improved squad.

The Opposition

Overview

Considering the vast support of the Bradford lot in comparison to the rest in League Two it may seem surprising that City didn’t bounce straight back up to League One but like most they are finding life harder then they imagined even with the help of the boomerang that is Micky Boulding.

Their History…

Formed in 1903 Bradford’s very first game was a 2-0 defeat to some team called Grimsby Town on the 1st of September of the same year. Won the FA Cup 8 years later and after that I believe there was nothing I bet we even ceased to exist between then and the season we got promoted to The Premier League which was all very nice and pretty and the ground was full and we were better then dirty Leeds which is most important. In all seriousness we like every other club but I guess Rochdale and MKshite FC were very proud of our history.

Last Season Was…

A huge disappointment I believe a great backing by the fans in every department and I believe personally we would roll this league over but it’s as hard as everyone had warned us.

This Season Is…

All about promotion that’s all I can say beg steal and borrow promotion in anyway truth or form I don’t care if we go up because every team above us go into financial breakdown I just want to get out of here and build the club to back what it was just a few years ago.

Their Biggest Hero Is…

No one else but our very own manager Mr Bradford Stuart McCall the guy would have Bradford written through him if he was a stick of rock. Fortunately he isn’t he was a great played and now a great manager who will hopefully stay with us through everything this era in the clubs history will throw at him.

The Ground Is...

Wembley of the North so everybody says but it’s only just the best stadium in Bradford. It’s a great stadium with huge potential it is the best in this league by a mile for atmosphere and facilities well for us in the home end anyway.

They’re Most Proud Of…

Debatable some say I think the day we knew we were safe in the Premier League after the first season we had beaten all the critics and the atmosphere was unbelievable loved every minute of that season. Oh and were proud of Ghostbusters I love that film.

The Future Is…

Hopeful we have led the way with season ticketing for lower league teams and I hope the club follow it still as we raise up the leagues more and more people in Bradford are coming to games and I see as many city shirts in the city now to when we were in the Premiership. Just hope the feeling I have of our progress is a lot more then just a feeling.

The Most Famous Player To Have Worn The Shirt…

Tommy Cairns is probably technically the best player the club has had. He was a regular of both Rangers and Scotland back in the 20’s but word can’t be missed on our own manager Stuart McCall, Gary Walsh and a small Italian called Benito Carbone. Oh the memories.

Their Key Player Is…

Who else? Micky Boulding, he will come back and haunt Grimsby god knows how you let him slip through your grasp twice but he is a great catalyst upfront and though not as quick as he was when he was with you first time around but still a pain in the neck for any defence.

Prediction

2-0 to the City your resurgence stops here guys sorry.
