FORMER Grimsby Town centre back Rob Jones has been transferred to Scunthorpe from Scottish Premier League side Hibs for a club record fee for the Iron. Grimsby are likely though to benefit from the deal as they had a sell on clause for the central defender.

The 29-year-old left Blundell Park for the Scottish side in 2006, shortly after winning the Player of the Year award in Grimsby's near-promotion season.

At the time Town negotiated a 15% sell on clause, which applies if the fee was more than the £150K which Hibs paid for the then 26-year-old. Although the exact fee which Scunthorpe have paid has not been disclosed, it is at least £425K as that is Iron's previous record signing.

This means Grimsby are due to receive over £60K from Hibs for Rob Jones' sale to the Iron.
