French Midfielder Signs

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 16/10/2009

FRENCH midfielder Arnaud Mendy has joined the Mariners for a month's loan from Derby. The 19-year-old is a box to box central midfielder who has played one game for the Rams, a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Mendy initially impressed in pre-season for Nigel Clough's side, coming on as a substitute and scoring an equaliser within minutes for his first appearance in a friendly against Stoke.

Grimsby have been weak in midfield all season and hopefully Mendy will provide the missing link for Mike Newell in the centre of the park.

Both Mendy and fellow new signing, striker Josh Magennis, are expected to feature prominently against in-form Rochdale on Saturday.

  • Meanwhile young right back Bradley Wood, whose kit is sponsored by this web site, has put pen to paper on a 4-year professional contract with the Mariners. The Leicester-born 18-year-old made an impressive debut against Darlington a few games ago, and has since been a regular in the side. Wood has risen up through the youth team under his near namesake Neil Woods, who is also a relative of Bradley's.
