Conlon Departs

TOWN striker Barry Conlon has joined Chesterfield initially on loan but with a view to a permanent move from Blundell Park. To rub salt into the wound he today made his debut for the Spireites and scored the winner against Torquay.

Conlon has fallen out of favour with Town boss Neil Woods, despite being the top scoring striker at Blundell Park and arguably Town's most natural goalscorer.

Earlier this week Woods placed Conlon and three senior pros on the transfer list.

Meanwhile his replacement Wes Fletcher, on loan from Brian Laws's Burnley, came on at Blundell Park in this afternoon's game against Cheltenham, but failed to especially impress.

Grim Rob Says: Getting rid of Conlon is a controversial move when Town have scored so few goals under Woods. It might save a few quid on the wage bill, but is it going to help us stay up? Last season Conlon was one of the architects of the Great Escape so who is going to be the hero this year? It's hard to see at the present moment.
