Quakers Topple Town

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 30/03/2011

TOWN lost at home for the first time for six months to Darlington last night, a single goal first half by Liam Hatch proving enough to topple the Mariners and almost certainly consign Grimsby to another season in the Conference.

Injury-hit Town started with a makeshift defence, with a back four of Dwayne Samuels, Scott Garner, Rob Atkinson and Bradley Wood.

Darlington, had the better of the opening exchanges and took the lead on 21 minutes. A corner by Brown led to a Miller header which was saved by Arthur, but the ball eventually was crossed back to Hatch who poked it in, going in off the post, despite Arthur getting a glove to it.

Town struggled to create anything and Darlington always looked dangerous, especially along the flanks.

Early in the second half Town upped the pace a bit and Garner had a header cleared off the line, and not long afterwards Connell likewise had a header cleared by a defender on the line.

But it wasn't to be and Town fizzled out despite the introduction of Makofo, Ademeno, and then Peacock.

Town's new management duo have another chance to record their first win on Saturday when Town travel to Wales to take on Newport County.
