Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Who will it be?
Who will it be?

Wanted: New Chairman

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/09/2011

GRIMSBY are looking for a new chairman after majority shareholder Mike Parker revealed he did not want the job. With former chairman John Fenty having suddenly resigned this week, the onus was on Mr Parker to show his cards and take over the role.

However Parker has revealed that he is happy to remain in a backroom role and neither wishes to be Chairman nor to re-join the board.

Mr Parker told the Grimsby Telegraph he was trying to find a new chairman, presumably amongst him business contacts: "I will now speak to as many people as I can as quickly as I can," said Parker.

Aside from the issue of who the chairman is, there is also the matter of financial input to the club. Fenty and Parker have between them kept the club afloat over the last year, and without their input the club would be technically insolvent. There are funds in place to survive 2011 but the issue must be resolved before next year, ideally at the AGM in November.

John Fenty, who wishes to remain on the board, has said he does not wish to fund the club while he remains a minority shareholder. "I don't expect anyone would expect the board or myself to keep putting in huge sums of money to keep the club afloat without having control of the club," Fenty told the Grimsby Telegraph.

Grim Rob Says: Fenty and Parker should have been able to sort this out without it having come to this. I don't favour either individual but surely they can find a way of working together given that they have so much in common. The irony is we should be better off having two wealthy owners than one, but it seems that the opposite is the case. Gentleman put your differences aside, and remember that we are all Town at the end of the day.
