Grimsby v Hornchurch Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 13/01/2012

TOWN are forced into making several changes for the FA Trophy Tie with Hornchurch. Ian Miller, Kiernan Hughes-Mason and Kenny Arthur are cup tied having featured in the competition for other clubs this season, and midfielder Craig Disley is using the opportunity to rest his ankle.

Anthony Church (back) is also a doubt, although if he recovers in time he looks a likely starter in central midfield alongside Andi Thanoj. Should Church not make it then Frankie Artus will probably be selected in his place.

Centre back Miller, who has a 100% winning record since joining Town from Darlington, will probably be replaced be Sean Pearson, who lost his place to Miller when he was injured following the first match against Lincoln on Boxing Day.

Town are not short of defensive options as Bradley Wood and Charlie I'Anson are both not available following their respective suspensions and injuries.

AFC Hornchurch are an unknown quantity to most Town supporters but will fancy their chances against Grimsby. They currently top the Ryman Premier League, two levels below the Mariners, so their confidence will be high, and they have already won four rounds in this tournament. In the previous round they beat BSS side Farnborough from the division above the Essex side.

Grimsby's record against lower league opposition in recent times has been poor. They were knocked out of the FA Trophy by ChaseTown last season, and by BSS side Salisbury in the FA Cup in the current campaign. In their last football league season Town also lost to non-league opposition against Bath City, who at the time were two levels below them.
