Elding: Recall?
Elding: Recall?

Grimsby v Forest Green Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/09/2012

ANTHONY Elding will be pushing for a starting berth against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday after an impressive performance as a substitute in the 2-2 draw at Barrow. The 30-year-old striker had a transfer request turned down last week after his frustration at not being involved more.

However his performance in midweek answered many of his critics, and Elding must be close to the recall he believes he deserves for the match with Rovers, especially as Greg Pearson (groin) is still out injured. Andy Cook, who looked below par against his former club, would be the most likely candidate to be replaced by Elding.

The other substitutes on Tuesday will also be options which the managers might turn to to start the game. Soares and Thanoj both played their part in a second half comeback to rescue a point against Barrow after being 2-0 down.

Forest Green Rovers might not have a illustrious history, but they are many fans favourites for the title and they have already hit the top of the league in September, and have yet to lose a game. Rovers have won 5 out of the last 6 games, and the big spenders thrashed Ebbsfleet 4-1 in midweek.

Rovers wealth and ambition is evident from the fact that the players are staying overnight in Doncaster to minimize the effects of travelling from Gloucestershire to Cleethorpes in one day.

Defender Chris Todd and midfielder Al Bangura are both available after injury. But defenders Jared Hodgkiss, Paul Green, and Chris Stokes are all ruled out.

Town won the equivalent fixture 2-1 last year when Conor Townsend grabbed all 3 points with a late free kick.
