Town Leave It Late

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 30/11/2012

GRIMSBY left it very late to finally break a stubborn Buxton side after nearly 180 minutes of goalless football in the FA Trophy 1st Round, which the Derbyshire side took to a replay on Wednesday night.

Town made five changes from the side that drew 0-0 in the original fixture on Saturday. McKeown returned in goal for Greg Fleming. Michael Rankine and Greg Pearson were a new look front two, Bradley Wood was preferred at right back to Sam Hatton and Dayle Southwell replaced Andi Thanoj in midfield.

The first half ended goalless with few chances for either side.

Town increased the pressure as the game progressed and Miller scored for Grimsby in the 87th minute, rising to head the ball in from a Soares cross.

Grimsby did not play well in either game, but credit to the Bucks for restricting Town to just a handful of chances. Grimsby will play Braintree Town or Havant & Waterlooville in Round 2 - the pair play off on Tuesday night.

Town: McKeown; Wood, Miller, Pearson, Thomas, Southwell, Disley, Niven, Marshall (Soares 86) , Rankine (Cook 59), Pearson G (Hannah 86).
