Town Win With Ease

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/09/2014

TOWN recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over Chester at Blundell Park. Pearson headed Town in front from a corner. Hannah added a second after the break then missed a penalty. Arnold cams on and scored a third in injury time to wrap up the points.

On loan striker Rhys Oates made his first start for the Mariners. partnering Ross Hannah in a 4-4-2 line up. It meant sacrificing a midfielder and Craig Disley was the one to drop to a strong looking bench, boosted by the return of strikers Lenell John-Lewis and Nathan Arnold.

Town had the bulk of the early possession and the result was never seriously in doubt once Grimsby took the lead, unusually from a corner. Pearson rose unchallenged to head the Mariners in front on 17 minutes.

Hannah doubled Town's lead with a mazy run in the box which beat several players and then dinked it past the 'keeper for a superb individual effort.

Mackreth was hauled down in the box for a Grimsby penalty Town could afford the luxury of missing, which they did when the 'keeper saved from Hannah's effort from 12 yards.

Town finally put the game to bed when Arnold ran to the byline and crossed for Arnold to side foot in.
