Town Succumb to Late Free Kick

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 11/12/2016

GRIMSBY'S poor home run continued with another defeat, this time at the hands of Portsmouth. The Mariners looked to be on target for a respectable point against the high-flyers but succumbed top a late Naismith free kick that codemned Town to their fifth home defeat.

Town created very little throught the game and it always looked Pompey who were the more likely to score.

James Berrett, Brandon Comley and Ashley Chambers were replaced by Tom Bolarinwa, Craig Disley and Dominic Vose as Marcus Bignot opted for a new-look midfield .

Pompey had the better of the first half and Baker came close after a mazy run through the Town defence but shot straight at McKeown.

Town improved after the break and Chambers drew a save from Forde then substitute Bolarinwa drilled a low shot wide from outside the box.

With 4 minutes to go Berrett copnceded a free kick in a central position and substitute Naismith curled a stunning kick into the top corner.

That was the end of the meaningful action and Town head to Doncaster hoping to conmtinue with their better away form.
