Town Announce New Scholars

By: Luke Pawley
Date: 16/05/2017

GRIMSBY Town have announced the nine-strong group of new youth team scholars for next season.

The sixteen-year-olds have signed two-year scholarship contracts, meaning they will benefit from an excellent education on and off the pitch.

Included in this year's intake is Jock Curran, son of former Town midfielder Terry. He's not the only player with Town in the family to earn a scholarship with the club, as Brandon Buckley - grandson of former manager Alan - is also part of the group. Buckley actually signed his scholarship forms last season, but starts his two-year programme this summer.

The full list of new scholars are:

Rumarn Burrell - Former Coventry and Scunthorpe striker, scored six goals in three trial games for the Mariners.

Tom Jamieson - A local defender who featured on a few occasions for the youth team last season.

Emil Powles - Local defender, been at Town since a young age.

Jock Curran - Son of former Town winger Terry Curran. Signed from Doncaster Rovers after making appearances for their under-18s while he was an under-15 player.

Brandon Buckley - Young midfielder who signed scholarship terms last summer, aged 15.

Kyle Richardson - Local midfielder, also been at Town for several years.

Conley Poynter - Striker from the Norwich area, also capable of playing out on the left.

Ollie Battersby - A local goalkeeper who has been with The Mariners since a young age. Will provide competition for Corey Briggs this season.

Ollie Saunders - Former Norwich City left-back, also capable of playing on the left wing.
