GRIMSBY Town have confirmed that former Premier League defender Danny Collins has signed a new one-year deal at Blundell Park.

Collins, most notable for his time in the Premier League with Sunderland and Stoke, has committed to another year at Blundell Park.

The experienced defender was handed the captain's armband towards the end of last season, and he is expected to be the captain next season following the departures of Craig Disley and Shaun Pearson.

Former Welsh international Collins will turn 37 in August, which could mean that his football career is drawing to a close. He could follow in the footsteps of Shaun Pearson and Ben Davies by doing some coaching with the Grimsby Town academy.
