Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

We are Town!
We are Town!

Grimsby v Newport Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 12/01/2018

WITH the dreaded vote of confidence behind him, Town boss Russell Slade will be hoping to end the three-match losing run with a positive result against Padraig Amond's in-form Newport County on Saturday. He might have to do so without Siriki Dembele after the winger missed training all week.

With the Mariners having lost their last three games, they will be eager to get back on track but face a tough test against an Exiles side that will be high on confidence.

New Derby loan striker Charlie Vernam looks certain to feature, whether from the start or the bench is the question Slade has to decide.

Town will be hoping Newport are distracted by the cup after the Welsh outfit's win over Leeds earned them with a home tie against Spurs and national attention.

Newport are without striker Marlon Jackson and defender Calaum Jahraldo, but ex-Scunthorpe striker Paul Hayes could make his debut after joining from Wycombe back in October, but not being allowed to play until January. Hayes could partner former Town favourite Amond in attack for County.

Padraig Amond scored the only goal when the two sides met in Wales in September. Grimsby did win this game 1-0 last season though.

Should the unthinkable happen and Town lose their fourth consecutive game in front of a sub-3000 crowd then the writing will really be on the wall for Slade.
