Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

The Perfect Start

GRIMSBY made the perfect start to their League Two campaign with a 2-0 win at Morecambe with two debut goals. Elliott Whitehouse took the lead resulting from a bizarre free kick and then ex-Youth team player Max Wright sealed the points in injury time.

It was a perfect debut for Whitehouse who missed the whole of last season through injury

Town started with eight players from last season, the least number of debutantes inn the side, although Whitehouse was technically starting his first game. Elliott Hewitt, Matt Green and James Hanson were the new players.

Green had a good chance for Town early on, and the away side continued to have most of the opportunities in front of goal.

Town looked dangerous at set pieces with Ohman and Davis both going close with headers.

And it proved to be a set piece where Town took the lead midway through the second half. The Morecambe defence attempted to play Grimsby offside but got their timings wrong and Whitehouse was one of three unchallenged players who combined for a simple tap-in from an Ohman pass.

Town then had another easy goal when Morecambe 'keeper Roche went up for a corner in injury time and Town broke free for Wright to plant the ball in an empty goal.

It was a well-deserved win that hopefully Grimsby can build on in their next game, at Blundell Park against Bradford, one the best supported sides in the division.
