When Will Football Start Again?

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/06/2020

THE clubs will vote on Monday, June 8th on whether to accept the recommendation or terminating the League Two season and deciding the league table on a PPG basis. The league are still proposing to have play-offs in July/August to decide the fourth promotion place.

The EFL look like playing out the Championship starting on June 20th, but League One is still uncertain. The Premier League is due to restart on 17 June. All matches will be behind closed doors, with players and officials heavily tested.

With no guarantee of football starting again in the Autumn, at least in front of supporters, Grimsby have asked their staff to take a pay cut to help the club stay afloat. Town are receiving almost no income at the moment but still have players and management staff under contract.

Although the future is far from certain at least with some competitive games starting to take place there is light at the end of the tunnel for the sport. The UK government has given the green light for domestic competitive sport to resume starting today, and horse racing is one of the first sports to get back to action, albeit with nobody allowed to watch from the stands.
