Where will Grimsby finish?

UPDATE: Southend Game Called Off

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 18/02/2022

SOUTHEND have finally called the game off at Roots Hall after a day of strong winds and advice not to travel. Many supporters will have set off to the game due to it being called off in the late afternoon.

UPDATE (10:00): DESPITE the strong winds across the country and the advice not to travel, Grimsby's match at Southend tonight remains on. There will be further grounds inspections are planned for 1pm and 3pm respectively.

Although the wind speed is expected to drop by this evening's kick-off time, people still need to travel to the game. With rail services heavily disrupted, supporters from Grimsby will be unable to get there unless they drive in windy conditions and go against official advice not to travel.

Ironically if the fixture had not been moved forward to Friday night it would have been unaffected by the weather conditions, which are only expected to be dangerous for a few hours.

UPDATE (16:30): Southend have called the match off "following significant deterioration and damage caused to the Roots Hall Stadium between 2pm and 4pm".

A frustrating day for supporters wishing to attend the game for what was a very predictable postponement.
