Scunny Relegated

News From 30th April 2000

Brian Laws

Scunthorpe United have been relegated from Division Two after just a single season of enjoying an elevated status from their habitual home in the league's lowest division. Scunny travelled to Oxford's Manor Ground yesterday knowing that defeat would result in the team's relegation to Division Three. They lost 2-0.

Ex-Town boss Brian Laws took the Iron to Division Two via the Wembley play-offs last May in front of 13,000 fans from Scunthorpe, beating Orient 1-0.

The Wembley day out is but a distant memory now for the Scunny faithful with the team having languished in the relegation zone nearly all season, and their quick return to Division 3 has looked inevitable for a while.
